2019 Suzuki Ertiga scores four-star rating in crash test assessment
MANILA: Suzuki has revealed the crash test results of their second-generation minivan, the Suzuki Ertiga. The first-generation model received an overall four-star rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP) back in 2016. This year, the Suzuki Ertiga received four stars for adult occupant protection (AOP) and five stars for child occupant protection (COP) respectively.
Adult Occupant Protection Assessment
The vehicle underwent a dynamic test assessment to evaluate how the Ertiga withstands impact. Frontal offset impact tests revealed satisfactory protection for critical areas to front occupants such as chests and the driver’s head.
According to the ASEAN NCAP, the passenger’s head came out with an even better rating. AOP for frontal impact was given 11.42 points, while side impact was given 14.25 points. Head protection technology received zero points resulting in a total rating of 25.67 points.
Child Occupant Protection Assessment
For the COP assessment, the dynamic test assessment took into account 18-month old and three-year old child occupants. The restraint system for 18-month old passengers is the rearward-facing Maxi Cosi Milofix, while the system used for three-year old passengers is the Britax Duo Plus. Both were installed via ISOFIX and top tether.
For 18-month old passengers, the Ertiga was able to score 7.18 points for front impact and 4.00 points for side impact resulting in a total of 11.18 points. For three-year olds, front impact received 4.95 points while side impact received 4.00 points resulting in a total of 8.95 points.
Additional Safety Features
The minivan is equipped with standard safety features such as dual airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and seat belt reminders for front occupants. According to Suzuki, electronic stability control (ESC) is also available as a standard or optional feature.
For the safety assist category, the Ertiga was able to score a total of 7.85 points. Under this category, effective braking and avoidance received 4.85 points while 3.00 points went to seat belt reminders. The Ertiga is equipped with blind spot technology and advanced safety assistance technologies therefore receiving zero points in that section.
Overall, the 2019 Suzuki Ertiga was able to score 65.41 points, making it eligible for a four-star ASEAN NCAP rating.
