2020 MG 5 comes filled with features & tech to the brim
MANILA: The subcompact sedan market in the Philippines incorporates some of the most popular and best-selling four-wheel offerings in the country. Moreover, pretty much every automobile manufacturer doing business in the Philippines has at least one player in the segment to compete with the other rivals. To extend its Philippine portfolio and seize a larger portion of the market share, The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCI, the official distributor of MG cars in the country has decided to throw the MG 5 in the battlefield.
Some of the big boys that rule the subcompact sedan market in the Philippines are the Toyota Vios and the Honda City. Also, we cannot take the likes of the Kia Soluto and the Hyundai Reina for granted either, and it is probably these two that will receive a tough fight from the MG 5.
Speaking of the appearance, the MG 5 looks like a modern-day car with its sleek profile and latest features & tech. The front fascia of the subcompact sedan is made up of a pair of LED headlamps with built-in LED DRLS, wide chrome grille with horizontal slats, and fog lamps with chrome surround. Moving to the side profile of the MG 5, we find the car sporting a few delicate character lines along with a bold shoulder line that runs across the length of the car. Furthermore, blacked-out A-, B-, and C-pillars and a set of 15- or 16-inch alloys also contribute to the sleek looking side profile.
At last, the rear end of the all-new MG 5 flaunts a pair of wrap-around taillamps, boot-lid spoiler, reflector on either corner of the bumper, and a few character lines. The interior of the MG 5 is bolstered by a dual-tone setup. There is a three-spoke sporty looking multifunction steering, push-button start/stop function, automatic climate control, sunroof, large 10-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, powered driver seat, 360-degree parking camera, and much more.
Under the hood of the MG 5 is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated internal combustion engine that is capable of generating 112 hp of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 revs. Customers can choose between a 5-speed manual and a CVT. The top speed of the MG 5 with the 5-speed manual and the CVT read 185 kmph and 180 kmph, respectively.
Moreover, ventilated Disc brakes at the front and standard disc brakes at the rear provide the subcompact sedan with impressive braking power. Safety equipment includes four SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, hill hold assist, and electronic stability control. A 5-year or 100,000-km warranty comes as standard and the available color options are Carbon Gray, Extreme Speed Red, Moon White, Morning Gold, Laser Blue, and Meteorite Black.
The four different variants of the 2020 MG 5 and their respective prices are as follows:
