2021 Kia Seltos X-Line Crossover SUVs are city slickers built for the off-road
MANILA: Kia Motors America (KMA) just unveiled the all-new 2021 Seltos off-road-ready crossover SUV at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
According to Michael Cole, president, KMA: "The Seltos is an exciting addition Kia's tough and rugged lineup of Kia SUVs." Conception and design were entirely done at the Kia Design Center America and built by Zero to 60 Designs of Corona, CA; the Seltos were meant to embrace the active lifestyle. Cole further adds, “the Kia brand is always looking toward the future, and we are eager to show what may wait just around the corner. These new concepts are meant to get the creative juices flowing and illustrate what the ultimate Seltos could be."
The new Kia Seltos X-Line crossover segment debuted two variants: the Trail Attack Concept and the Urban Concept. And it looks like if the Sportage and Soul would have a baby, it will be the Seltos.
Seltos X-Line Trail Attack Concept
The Trail Attack Concept draws attention to its two-tone orange and beige color that is reminiscent of “a stirring desert sunset.” Its main features are the highly-customized bumper with a winch and four Hella lights mounted in front of the grille. If those are not enough to scream ‘off-road adventure,’ Kia further added four more on the roof rack. The rugged look is complemented by fender flares with a matte black trim accent and 17-inch bespoke alloy wheels wrapped in knobby off-road tires.
Seltos X-Line Urban Concept
The Urban concept, on the other hand, is the more ‘demure’ of the two. The gray color scheme was inspired by skyscrapers with an orange accent on the mirror caps and gloss black roof for contrast. The Look is rounded off with 17-inch gold-colored alloy wheels partnered with side skirts and front skid plate in gold-tone as well. Up top, the X-Line Urban also features the four Hella auxiliary lights and custom fabricated roof rack for added utility.
Under the custom hood, both the X-Line concept SUV uses the same engine as that of the production Seltos—a 1.6- Liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine capable of delivering 175 Hp of power and 264 Nm of peak torque. The engine is partnered with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Seltos also comes available in a 4WD system that has a legit central differential lock. The two X-Line concepts have the same cabin features as the production Seltos such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, and backup camera.
And while the production Seltos will officially go on sale come the first quarter of 2020, Kia said that there are no plans at the moment to produce either concept. Too bad, we really think the X-Line concept are versatile SUVs that can take the city traffic and won’t feel out of place on off-road adventures.
