Bentley ready for Bentayga EWB production

MANILA: The team of artisans who worked on Bentley's latest models received the sign-off needed to start the production of the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase on their return to the factory after summer shutdown.

The Bentayga EWB sets the standard for combining top-tier luxury and cutting-edge technology while showcasing unprecedented levels of comfort and craftsmanship. The new Bentley flagship is handcrafted in Crewe, England, where Bentley's carbon-neutral luxury automotive factory is located. The new model features lofted quilting, detailed veneer and metal overlays, and Bentley's Diamond Illumination, which creates an unique interior ambience.

Approximately 30% of customers purchase the extended paint range, metal overlays in the veneer, and open pore wood, while over 50% of orders include the Bentley Airline Seat Specification or Bentley Diamond Illumination.

Bentley's signature diamond quilting has been reinvented in a stunning and modern new style. The finished product looks uncomplicated, but the meticulous attention to detail that went into it captures everything special about Bentley interiors.

The symmetrical pattern at the top of the seat backs, created and produced through a combination of digital craftsmanship and precision technology, stretches the diamonds as they go away from the centerline of the seats. The doors, meanwhile, have an asymmetrical pattern that emphasizes both the length of the door and the length of the entire rear cabin.

The flawless leather is perforated with holes that have a diameter of less than one millimeter inside each diamond. One of Bentley's interior designers digitally positioned each hole to create a seamless overall design, a process known as "digital-crafting."

A specialized embroidery machine is used to stitch the diamonds after the leather has been through a perforating machine. The machine has a camera that analyzes the perforation pattern and makes sure the embroidery lines are perfectly parallel and evenly spaced out from the perforation diamonds. The finished product is a stunning, exquisite, and unique design.

A finer thread and a smaller micro-stitch have been applied to create a softer panel with delicate, luxurious form language. This change in thread and innovation in the production process has created a more pronounced, delicately lofted quilting, in a way Bentley has never done before in production. This procedure is similar to the quilting method used on the 2019 EXP 100 GT concept car's doors and seats.

The greatest Grand Tourers in the world have been equipped with wooden dashboards since the introduction of the first Bentley in 1921. The shape and application of sustainably harvested wood veneer to Bentley interiors has been acknowledged as an industry first; the craftsmen at Bentley's Wood Shop have skills that are comparable to the best cabinet makers.

Each Bentayga EWB's wood set takes more than 10 hours to make, and the class-leading SUV will utilize the Metal Overlay in Veneer feature for the first time in series production.

The fascia panel and all four doors of the vehicle have this optional feature. Individual brushed metal badges that are each 0.07mm thick make up the intricate design's many layers.

The inlay designs are made using a technique called photo-etching. The design is laminated to the metal using a very fine stencil. The main process chemically cuts away unnecessary portions of metal after a few intermediate steps that involve UV light exposure and laminate development, keeping only the inlay design. Etching reduces the amount of manual handling and material cutting, minimizing the risk of damage and increasing the level of precision that may be attained. Each badge is manually bonded in place on the veneer's surface then the part is lacquered and polished.

Bentley Diamond Illumination is an additional eye-catching and elegant optional feature made available for the Bentayga EWB. A total of 68 LEDs are used to create the illumination effect, and they each have a light-emitting diffuser that is one millimeter in diameter.

The occupants can adjust the brightness and color of the lights through the infotainment system and Touch Screen Remote. To maintain consistency of color and brightness across the cabin, this feature is integrated with the mood lighting. This can completely transform how the cabin feels and appears, especially at night.

The new Bentley Bentayga EWB will make its UK public debut at the Southampton Boat Show on September 16 to 25. Bentley Motors is the exclusive luxury automotive partner of Britain's largest international boat festival.
