Bored of too many EcoSports on the road? Here's an exclusive touch

MANILA: The Ford EcoSport has been leading sales charts in the Philippines subcompact SUV segment ever since its launch in January 2014. For the past two years, Ford has been selling more than 1500 units of this compact SUV every month. As a result, our roads have gradually been flooded with too many similar-looking EcoSports, thus making it a regular sight. The only reason that someone in the market would think twice before buying a new EcoSport would be the absence of novelty factor as the exclusivity in owning this cutesy little Ford SUV has been lost. And now, Ford Philippines seems to have judged this customer dilemma and has decided to provide a spruced up version of its popular compact SUV.

With the 2016 Manila International Auto Show opening its gates on the 7th April, Ford Philippines would be showcasing a new special edition variant, called the Ford EcoSport Black Edition. As the name suggests, this new edition would get an all-black themed exterior that would instantly make it look different from any other EcoSport on the road. In addition to the new black color tone, the front grille, roof rails and wing mirrors will also get a piano black finish. 16-inch alloys too have been dipped in black, thus imparting a stealth-fighter like charisma to the EcoSport's profile.

Mechanically, the Black Edition EcoSport wouldn't see any revamp and will continue to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol mill that is tuned to deliver 108 hp of power and a peak torque of 142 Nm. But this special edition EcoSport would only be available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox as stick-shift wouldn't be an option.

Though prices will only be revealed after the official showcase at MIAS 2016, it will likely be priced a bit higher than the stock EcoSport currently on sale. We expect it to start around PhP 900,000 mark.

Can this redressed EcoSport entice Filipinos to book their next car? Only time will be able to answer this question.
