Filipinos, the Jeep Cherokee is back

MANILA: Jeep has delighted the SUV lovers in the Philippines big time. While the wait for the 2019 Wrangler was evident, the American automobile manufacturer has put a cherry on the cake by bringing back the Cherokee for the Filipinos.

This new and updated Cherokee was unveiled by Jeep last year at the 2018 North American International Show. While we are the late gainers, we appreciate the arrival of the 2019 Cherooke none the less.

Auto Nation Group, the official distributors of Jeep vehicles in the Philippines, displayed the 4x4 Longitude model of 2019 Cherooke. The 2019 Wrangler was also present at the event and has been launched at a starting price of Php 3,390,00. On the outside, the front end of the Cherooke comprises of a restyled bumper which is slimmer than before and showcases modern looking headlamps.

The iconic seven-slot grille continues to enhance the rugged and muscular appearance of the Jeep Cherokee. The changes at the rear of the SUV include a reshaped tailgate, sportier than before rear bumper, repositioned license plate holder, and smoked LED taillights.

Stepping inside the Cherokee, no extravagant changes are to be seen. However, the interior is now adorned by larger Uconnect touchscreen infotainment and redesigned gauges. Revamped HVAC controls and centre console along with some new trims pieces here and there complete the chopping inside.

The Jeep Cherokee gets its power from a 2.4-litre MultiAir2 inline-four engine which is expected to produce a maximum power of 184 PS and 232 Nm of peak torque. Power delivery to the wheels is done by a nine-speed automatic unit. Jeep may also offer a new 2.0-litre turbocharged engine in the Cherokee.

Auto Nation Group cited that the specifications and pricing are yet to be decided and may undergo some alterations. In June 2019, the automaker will reveal the pricing along with full specifications of the Cherokee SUV.
