Ford Everest - Pros & cons

Ford Everest - Pros & cons

One of the leading names you will come across in the proper 7-seater SUV segment has to be ‘Ford Everest’. It has been around in the Philippines for quite some time now and impressed a lot of people with its solid build, features, and powerful engine options. So how good or bad an SUV is it now? Let’s find out in this Pros and Cons story.

Ford Everest Pros

Attractive Looks

We think that Ford has done a really good job in giving the Everest looks that are attractive but not intimidating. We have a nice simple front grille with HID headlamps on either side. The LED daytime running lights also do their job very well. And Ford has placed the fog lamps lower down on the bumper.

Keeping things busy on the side are the massive 20-in alloy wheels wearing 265/50 R20 tyres. The entire side view looks very masculine and strong. And at the rear, we have a pair of gorgeous LED tail lamps along with a sporty roof-mounted spoiler.

Intimidating Dimensions

You see, it is not the design of the Ford Everest that is intimidating, it is the dimensions. It is 4893 mm long, 1862 mm wide, and 1836 mm. That explains the 20-in wheels and wide tyres, right? The plus side of such dimensions is an abundance of interior space.

Ford Everest Dimensions
Length 4893 mm
Width 1862 mm
Height 1836 mm
Wheelbase 2850 mm
Ground clearance  225 mm

Passengers in the middle row have immense leg- and headroom. Accommodating three adults here wouldn’t be a problem. The last row should be sufficient for people with short height or kids and things should be fine for shorter journeys.

Convenient Features

Apart from having a capacious cabin, the Ford Everest also has various other convenient features like-

  • Hands-free tailgate - trigger a sensor with your leg and it will open the tailgate automatically
  • Active noise cancellation - keep the unwanted engine noise from entering the cabin
  • Ford’s SYNC 3 - various voice commands for calls, music, navigation, climate control
  • Active park assist - helps you to park this gigantic SUV
    Power-fold 3rd-row seat
  • Rear AC vents and AC controls
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • AC 230V outlet

Everest Engine

Ford Everest has two variants and two engine options. If you have to buy the 4x2 variant then you will get the 2.0-litre Turbo engine which produces 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque. And if you want to get the 4x4 variant then you will get the new and more powerful 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engine that has 213 PS and 500 Nm of torque at its disposal.

Engine type 2.0-litre Turbo 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo
Max power 180 PS at 3500 rpm 213 PS at 3750 rpm
Max torque 420 Nm at 1750-2500 rpm 500 Nm at 1750-2000 rpm
Transmission 10-speed automatic transmission with Select Shift
Drivetrain 4x2  4x4 with Terrain Management System

High-end Safety Features

Ford has been very generous with the safety features. If you go through the Ford Everest specs sheet you will know what we are talking about.

Out of the many, what are the key safety features?
Ans. Following are the key safety features of the Everest-

  • Adaptive cruise control with Forward collision alert
  • Lane-keeping system
  • Driver alert system
  • Auto high beam control
  • Blindspot information system with cross-traffic alert
  • Pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection
  • Electronic stability control
  • Rollover mitigation

Ford Everest Cons

The Everest is a fantastic SUV and offers some of the best features in its class. However, if we really had to nitpick, we would say the following are some of its cons.

Middle Row Seats

While you get a lot of comforting features in the middle row seats, there’s one thing that they lack - bolstering. There’s no bolstering on these seats which means that you would toss and tumble sideways in a high-speed or bumpy corner.

Large Dimensions

There is no doubt that Everest’s large dimensions make it a spacious 7-seater however they also make it that much more difficult to drive, especially in the city and streets. Even though Ford has installed features like Active Park Assist, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Rearview Camera, one should be a good driver to take this giant out on the streets.

Oversized ORVMs

Ford did a good job in keeping the thickness of the A-pillars of the Everest to a minimum, however, it seems that it didn’t pay that much attention to the ORVMs (Outside RearView Mirrors). These mirrors seem to be oversized and block the driver’s vision of sight, especially in the corners and turns. Has anyone of you faced this issue?

Clearly, Everest has a much longer Pros list than its Cons list. And there are many other features that will fall in the former list which we haven’t even listed. So, we would like to know from you guys that what con can you think of of the Everest?
