Ford issues recall for EcoSport in India; PCM software to be upgraded

MANILA: Ford EcoSport might be the coolest small SUV around the world, but still has its share of hard luck. Similar to some other automobile makers or vehicles, Ford India has recalled around 7,250 units of the car voluntarily. The recall included the units that were manufactured from November 2017 to March 2018.

 

As for the reason behind the recall, it has been said by Ford India that the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) software on the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine that makes 123 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque. The company even said that the upgradation PCM software would end the chances of battery drainage and sudden deceleration.

The customers who have purchased their Ford EcoSport during this time or own a vehicle that was manufactured during this time will be informed by the company itself via email or letter. Alternatively, the customers themselves can find out whether they need to get their vehicle checked up by visiting the official website and feeding in their VIN (vehicle identification number).

Interestingly, this is the second recall that Ford made this year, the previous one being for 1,018 EcoSport facelifts. Cars from the previous batch were manufactured in 2017 in November and December. The issue with these units was that they had faulty seat recliner for the driver and the front passenger.

The Philippines version of the Ford EcoSport comes with a similar engine setup as the Indian market. There is the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated motor making 121 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque. The other turbocharged 1.0-litre variant (EcoBoost) makes 123 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque.

Prices here start from Php 918,000 for the base variant while the top variant costs Php 1,168,000.
