Ford launches 2020 Everest in the Philippines; an elusive upgrade
MANILA: Plunges in revenue and stock prices are all that the stakeholders of the auto industry have in the news for this year, at least for now. Ford is also no immune to this and a couple of weeks ago it reported much fewer earnings than what was expected. However, this has not in any way affected the launch of 2020 Everest, which has just landed in the Philippines after making its global debut in Thailand in 2018.
As compared to the older one, the new Everest packs quite obscure upgrades. The first visible part of the amelioration is reflected in the front fiasco, where the car flaunts a new chrome grille containing three metal bars on the top of the honeycomb design. The front bumper has also received a touch and its bold teeth-like look is now a bit more expressive. The American carmaker is initially offering only two variants- 4x2 Titanium and 4x4 Titanium, and both runs on 20-inch alloy wheels.
The most highlighting part is that the 2020 Everest shares the engine and transmission from the Ranger Raptor. The coaster arms a new 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbo-diesel, which is available in two states of tune. The first one is a single turbo unit and delivers a maximum power of 180 PS along with a peak torque of 420 Nm. The next one is a powerful bi-turbo mill that can churn out a maximum power of 213 PS and can push out a peak torque of 500 Nm. Everest now also ditches the old six-speed gearbox and gets the Raptor’s 10-speed automatic transmission layout.
There is hardly any noticeable change in the interior. The car has the same SYNC 3 infotainment system along with a touchscreen panel. The standard features include support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. Furthermore, the driver will grip a leather-wrapped steering wheel that house media controls on it. There is also a reverse camera along with parking sensors.
As far as the pricing is concerned, one can own the 2.0 Bi-Turbo Everest Titanium 4x2 for Php 1,995,000, whereas the 2.0 Bi-Turbo Everest Titanium 4x4 variant is priced at Php 2,299,000.
