Geely Coolray: Variants explained

Geely Coolray: Variants explained

Geely has been in the automotive industry since 1997. The China-based company is the one who introduced the Geely Binyue in the South East Asian market. It was first taken by AutoChina Inc. to the Philippine market through the LC or commonly known as the Panda but fell short because of its closest competitor Hyundai Eon and Mitsubishi Mirage.

Luckily, in September 2019, it was relaunched again locally through the Geely Coolray and will now be distributed by Sojitz Philippines Corporation. So what is it for the all-new 2020 Geely Coolray? Will it be able to wow the local automotive industry this time or will still eat the dust of the other entries in the fastest-growing segment of local compact SUVs?

Dubbed as the “New Standard for Global Compact SUVs”, the Geely Coolray channels a young and fashionable persona that was made possible through the global leading BMA architecture. The B-segment Modular Architecture or BMA gives the car higher flexibility to accommodate the latest advancements in technology, connectivity, and powertrain.

Geely Coolray front

The Geely Coolray dons a dynamic body that is exceptionally unique to its own namesake. The front exterior of the car has the Geely Auto’s Expanding Cosmos Grille with a twist whereas the additional depths gives an optical illusion of a vast expanse of stars in the form of the radiant headlamps. Meanwhile, the wing-shaped lines symbolize the dynamic power of the car, not to mention the “Wings of Time” tail lamps that are also quite impressive.

Apart from the exterior features, the inner beauty of the Coolray is really what sets it apart. The fusion of aesthetics and technology became very apparent with the very sleek and modernized cockpit that can give you a more exhilarating driving experience.

This compact SUV is locally available in three trims namely the Comfort, Premium, and the Sport while White and Red are the two color options.

All the three models are powered by a 1477 cc G-Power 1.5L 3-cylinder Turbocharged with Dual VVT gasoline engine that fires up to 177 hp at 5500 rpm and 255 Nm torque at 1500 - 4000 rpm. Coolray shifts gears through a 7-speed Wet Dual Clutch Transmission with emission standard of Euro 6.

You can also opt for the 1.0L powertrain that puts out a maximum of 136 hp and 205 Nm torque while switching gears through a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Now, let’s take a look at the difference of each variant one by one:

Geely Coolray Comfort

The entry-level of Coolray has a length of 4330 mm, a width of 1795 mm, and height of 1609 mm. The wheelbase is 2600 mm while the ground clearance is declared at 196 mm. The Geely Comfort model uses a 215/60 R17 alloy wheel and projector halogen headlamps while its fog lamps are standard halogen. Pop the doors open and you will be greeted with the fabric seats and elegant cockpit.

Geely Coolray Premium

It just has a bigger wheel and tire size which is 225/55 R18 that is also dual-color turbine-inspired like the Comfort. As for the exteriors, it has the same headlamp (but it has the automatic one) and fog light set up with the Comfort except that it has a two-tone body. The seats of the Premium model are made with PVC and have a panoramic sunroof.

Both Comfort and Premium have additional features like the Electronic Power Steering Column, Electronic Parking Brake, Autohold, Remote Start, Push Start Button and LED daytime driving light. In addition, some safety features like the ICC Intelligent Cruise Control and Electronic Stability Control System.

Unlike the Comfort, the Premium trim has APA Automatic Parking Assistant, smart keyless entry, and tire pressure monitoring system.

  • Front Parking Sensors
  • Electric Adjustable Seats
