Here are the highlights of the all-new Kia Sorento
MANILA: Since its launch in 2002, the Sorento has been one of Kia’s top-selling and well-recognized vehicles — becoming better engineered, more appealing, progressively powerful, and more innovative with every new iteration.
The all-new 2021 Kia Sorento establishes a new benchmark for the model and its place in the compact SUV category.
The 2021 Sorento will be released in five variants, namely SX-Prestige, SX, EX, S, and LX — all of which will be available in all-wheel-drive (AWD) or four-wheel-drive (FWD).
The X-Line SX-Prestige AWS is regarded as the hero model since it is a trim that shows the evolution of the Sorento into a more technologically oriented and "supreme" SUV.
The exterior of the all-new 2021 Sorento demonstrates Kia’s pursuit of a classy architectural framework, which is characterized by crisp, new lines adorned with advanced details, making it a more genuine SUV compared to a soft crossover.
The transformation of the dynamic appeal of Kia is significantly shown through its contemporary “tiger nose” with new “eyeline” DRL features, broad grille, six various alloy wheel designs (ranging from 17 inches to 20 inches), unique dynamic wave form at the base of the C pillar, robust side character line highlighting its sporty and muscular profile, optional signature LED forward lighting including daytime running lights, standard LED headlamps, and a hood edge that embraces the body side and incorporates into the rear shoulder line.
For the 2021 Sorento, four powertrains are available, which include two electrified options in either or both AWD and FWD configurations, and two internal combustion power plants.
Its engines include a five-liter GDI four-cylinder mated with an eight speed automatic transmission (producing 191hp and 247 Nm), a five-liter GDI four-cylinder turbo matched with a segment-exclusive eight-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission (generating 281hp and 422Nm torque), six-liter GDI four-cylinder turbo hybrid (producing 227hp) with a 44kW electric motor mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and a six-liter GDI four-cylinder turbo (producing 261hp) combined with a 66.9kW electric motor (available in 2021) mated with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the all-new 2021 Sorento boasts of exquisite, solid, and strong sensibility, similar to the exterior. Following the concept of “refined boldness,” the Sorento’s interior designers used distinct materials in its cabin.
The new interior features vertical center air vents that indicate a sense of strong presence, embossed quilt pattern on optional leather-fitted models, available open-pore wood inlays or metal texture inlays, and vibrant satin finishes.
As with other Kia vehicles, the all-new Sorento is equipped with a comprehensive range of innovations which include the available SiriusXM satellite radio, split-screen functionality, eight-inch or available 10.25-inch high-resolution color touchscreen display, eight USB charging ports (six in the LX variant), a blind-spot view monitor, surround view monitor, and an available 12.3-inch full digital meter cluster (considered a first for any Kia SUV).
Other features include the standard rear occupant alert, available wireless smartphone charging pad with higher charge rates, and a Bose premium sound system with 12 high-performance speakers.
As for the “your voice” (UVO) aspect of Kia, two features are available for the first time. These are the last mile navigation feature and the on-demand Find My Car with surround view monitor.
Sixteen “Kia Drive Wise” advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are available as standard or as options for the all-new 2021 Kia Sorento.
These ADAS include Available Safe Exist Assist (SEA), Available Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Available Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve (NSCC-C), Available Parking Collision Avoidance Assist (PCA-R), Available Parking Distance Warning-Reverse (PDW-R), Available Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Available Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA), Available Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), Standard Lane Following Assist (LFA), Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA), Standard Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Available FCA-Cyclist, Standard FCA-Pedestrian, Standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Standard Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Standard Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), and the Available new Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCCA).
The all-new 2021 Kia Sorento is set to be rolled out in global markets later this year. As for its pricing, it will also be announced near its release date.
