  • How much is the Hyundai Ioniq 5's standard trim in the Philippines?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5's base variant is priced at P3.068 million.
  • In a statement, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) shared that the five examples of its flagship electric vehicle (EV) are of standard range and are wearing a Phantom Black Pearl paint.

The said model — retailed at P3.068 million — is powered by a 125-kilowatt-hour electric mill that can dish out up to 168 horsepower and 350 Newton-meters of torque. The powertrain lets the vehicle sprint to 100 kilometers per hour from rest in 8.5 seconds.

Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) Strategy Planning Division Executive Vice President Dongwook Kim expressed elation over the partnership forged with the aforementioned local government unit.

“Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967, and with partners like the Philippines, we are now one of the world’s largest automotive groups. Our journey has been an exciting one so far. We are proud and very grateful for the successes we had. However, we are always striving to do better,” Kim said.

“The Ioniq 5 exemplifies the essence of Hyundai Motor Group’s technology and innovation. As proven by the World Car of the Year several times, capturing people’s hearts all over the world. Undoubtedly, Makati is the most suitable city in the Philippines to match it. Today, we are planting the seed of sustainability. We will be one with your commitment in uplifting the lives of Makatizens,” the executive added.

Republic of Korea to the Philippines Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa lauded the utilization of the electric vehicle to help the public.

“The Philippines is one of the nations most vulnerable to climate change because of its geographical location and composition. So, the electric vehicles for public use revealed today by Makati City is commendable. Makati’s future-oriented approach aligns with the national government’s plan to increase the number of EVs in the country. It also fits well into Hyundai Motor’s pioneering path to carbon neutrality for the benefit of the future generation. To this end, Korea is more than prepared to partner with the Philippines in the field of eco-friendly transportation,” he explained.

In the country, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered in top options which are both packaged with a five-year or 200,000-kilometer (km) vehicle warranty, eight-year or 160,000-km battery warranty and free preventive maintenance service for five years or 75,000-km, whichever comes first.

In addition, the EV units come with free installation of a 7.4 kwh AC wall charger.

For her part Makati Mayor Mar-len Abigail Binay noted that by introducing the Hyundai Ioniq 5 into the city’s public safety fleet, it bolstered their emergency response capabilities and at the same time, reduced carbon footprint.

“This move not only bolsters our emergency services but also sets an example for other cities to follow in the pursuit of sustainable urban living,” Binay stated.

Aside from the three, those who graced the handover ceremony were HMG Policy Coordination Office Vice President for Hydrogen and EV Business Yongtae Kim, HMPH executives namely Dong Wook Lee (President), Cecil Capacete (Managing Director), Jae Ha Ryu (Directing Coordinator for Sales and Dealer Development), and, Young Uk Ko (Directing Coordinator for Aftersales), Vice Mayor Monique Yazmin María Lagdameo, Makati First District Representative Romulo Peña, Second District Representative Luis Campos, and Head of Law and Public Safety Departments Atty. Michael Camiña.

Leaders from the Department of Energy’s Director Patrick Aquino of the Energy Utilization Management Bureau and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines’ President Edmund Araga were also present at the event.
