Hyundai Kona Electric passes 100,000 units in worldwide sales
MANILA: Hyundai Motor Company announced that the Kona Electric, the EV variant of its popular SUV, has breached the 100,000 global sales mark.
To be exact, as of June 30, the cumulative sales of Kona Electric totaled 103,719 units, and this was only more than two years since its debut in March 2018. Sales beyond its home market of South Korea accounted for over three-fourths of the figure.
The Kona Electric has been well-acclaimed for its flagship driving range, convenience, safety, and fast-charging capability features.
In April 2020, the Hyundai Kona Electric earned the Best Small Family Car Award during the inaugural TopGear Electric Awards for exceptional performance during a 24-hour, 1,600-km road trip in Europe. During the same year, the US News and World Report recognized it as the Best Electric Vehicle.
Last year, WardsAuto added the KONA Electric to its list of 10 Best Engines. In 2018, Auto Express recognized it as the Affordable Electric Car of the Year.
The EV also has a significant role to the Kona nameplate as it bagged the Best Car of the Year Award of the Spanish newspaper ABC. It was also recognized as the 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year.
The compact electric SUV was able to lead with 402-km estimated range. But apart from its outstanding performance and sales achievement, the Hyundai Kona Electric has a wide range of exterior and interior features.
The Kona Electric takes pride in its iconic taillights, LED headlights, and daytime running lights as well as its fresh and bold design components with demonstrative color options.
It is powered by a high-efficiency electric motor powertrain that produces 201hp and 395Nm.
Inside, the Kona Electric features premium technology such as its shift-by-wire center console drive controls with supplemental lower storage, head-up display (with active pop-up display screen), next-generation Blue Link connected car system, an eight-inch navigation system, Qi wireless device charging, rain-sensing wipers, and standard floating touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability.
The Kona Electric also includes the Hyundai Smart Sense (HSS) features such as driver attention warning, blind-spot collision warning, high beam assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection.
In establishing the legacy of the Kona Electric, Hyundai Motor Company highlights the promotion of emissions mobility, making it a reality as part of its long-term heritage.
By 2025, the goal of the auto company is to sell 560,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) aside from FCEV models.
