Kia EV6 named ‘Best of the Year’ in 41st MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards

MANILA: The 2022 Kia EV6 was hailed as the “Best of the Year” in the 41st MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Awards.

The 2022 Kia EV6 was also named “Best EV” along with three other electric vehicles.

“Following a momentous year for the EV6 with its US launch just one year ago and the recent debut of the high-performance EV6 GT, we are honored to receive these awards from MotorWeek. The EV6 represents an important step toward Kia’s transformative ‘Plan S’ global electrification strategy and its future-forward design, dedicated EV platform, and performance continue to impress,” Kia America Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Steven Center stated.

The MotorWeek team evaluated 150 vehicles based on price, practicality, performance, and fuel efficiency to determine the winners. The team then chooses the top models across a range of lifestyle categories, including family sedans, luxury cars, large utility vehicles, and pickups. The overall “Best of the Year” is selected among the best models in each category.

Every EV6 model begs to be driven with enthusiasm thanks to near-instant throttle response and nailed-down handling. The Kia EV6 is simply an outstanding, breakthrough vehicle design,” MotorWeek Host and Creator John Davis stated.

More than 20,000 Kia EV6 units have been sold in the US since its world debut in 2022. Kia EV6 sales in the US surged 128% in January 2023 versus the same month last year, demonstrating Kia's commitment to electrification.

With its long-range, zero-emissions power, 800V ultra-fast charging, and aesthetic value, the Kia EV6 revolutionizes the crossover SUV market. The Kia EV6 is the first Kia model developed using the company's newly created platform for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).

The Kia EV6 has a contemporary visual identity that mixes sculptural shapes and bold artistic elements to express natural energy. The Kia EV6 is a prime example of human-centered, futuristic design and electrified power. The distinctive and notable design is set to determine Kia's future. Numerous awards were bestowed upon it, including the 2022 iF Design Award and the 2022 Red Dot Award.

In order to achieve the best aerodynamic performance, the rear of the EV6 has a sloping C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert that appears to stretch the window glass. The Kia EV6's distinctive rear light cluster is topped by a raised lower spoiler, and above this is a prominent wing-style roof spoiler that directs air in a downward direction. This significantly contributes to the impressive 500+km range of the Kia EV6.

The Kia EV6 also features a sophisticated interior that matches its aggressive exterior styling and long range.

The cabin provides more space and adaptability due to its flat under-floor battery. The interior design greatly benefits from Kia's dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Despite having a compact exterior, the Kia EV6 has a cabin that is equivalent to many midsize SUVs, thanks to its 2,900mm wheelbase.

The new active sound design (ASD) technology, which comes with a 14-speaker Meridian surround audio system, is also featured on the Kia EV6.  The ASD feature uses auditory feedback to alert the driver of the vehicle's speed.

The several storage spaces in the cabin, including the boot compartment, which has a capacity of 520 liters, contribute to the cabin's utility and convenience. Volume increases to 1,300 liters when second-row seats are folded.

The Kia EV6 is powered by a fully electric powertrain consisting of a 168kW electric motor and a high-voltage battery pack. The Kia EV6 has a torque output of 350Nm and can accelerate from a standstill to 100kph in 7.3 seconds.

The Kia EV6 has vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which transforms it into a mobile power source for everything from electrical tools to recreational equipment.

The Kia EV6 made its Philippine debut at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) in September. According to Kia Philippines, the Kia EV6 will arrive in dealerships nationwide in early 2023, priced below P4 million.
