Kia listed in Time's “World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024”

MANILA: Kia has been included in the list of “World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024” by Time Magazine. 

As the car company shared, Time partnered with German data firm Statista to determine its eligibility to hold the title. The New York-based publication gathered a list of more than 5,000 companies, which were checked for their performance in several key categories. 

The said categories include adherence to the United Nations Global Impact, which pushes for sustainable and socially responsible policies. It also takes into account a company’s inclusion in the Standard and Poor (S&P) Global Sustainability Yearbook, participation in the “Race to Zero” initiative by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and evaluations to account for socially responsible investments and environmental, social, and governance investment standards. 

After all the assessments, the American magazine picked only 500 companies. Besides Kia, other automotive brands on the list include Nissan, Hyundai, Mazda, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, and Mahindra. 

On behalf of the Korean marque, Kia America Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Steven Center expressed appreciation for the title bestowed by Time Magazine. 

“Kia is honored to be recognized in Time’s ‘World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024’ list. This accolade reflects Kia’s commitment to electrified vehicles. Kia is driving towards a future where mobility is sustainable, efficient, and accessible to everyone,” Center said. 

“This distinction from Time motivates us to further accelerate our efforts in creating a sustainable future for all,” Center added. 

As pointed out by the company executive, one of Kia's biggest sustainable mobility initiatives is electrification. By 2027, it expects to grow its global electric vehicle (EV) lineup to 15 models. 

In the local market, Kia Philippines offers the EV6 with a suggested retail price of P3.788 million. The said vehicle offers a driving range of up to 528 kilometers and a maximum power output of 226 horsepower.
