Meet the Isuzu D-Max race truck from Australia
MANILA: While Isuzu isn't an automaker who dwells too much on the race tracks, it has unleashed a D-Max race truck in Australia's Superutes series. The Superutes series in Australia is one event where pickup trucks that were meant for carrying cargo are seen racing against each other. And, to have a taste motorsports, a performance-oriented D-Max race truck is what Isuzu decided to enter the race with, earlier this year.
Speaking of the changes made by the Japanese automaker on the truck, the D-Max race truck weighs just 1,800 after the removal of all the unnecessary elements. The dual-cab race truck also features a MoTec ECU, roll cage, and brake bias adjuster. Another major change on the D-Max race truck comes in the form of special suspension setup and 20-inch alloy wheels. The leaf springs have been replaced by coilovers and there are new horizontal shock absorbers as well. Courtesy of the new suspension setup, the ground clearance of the D-Max race truck has also gone down.
While the motor on the Isuzu D-Max superute is the same 3.0-litre turbodiesel unit that is found on the regular models, it is significantly more powerful than the standard engine. Compared to the 177 PS and 380 Nm on the factory tuning, the same on the superute churns out a maximum power of 340 PS and 600 Nm of peak torque.
Besides, staying true to its race DNA, the race truck features a six-speed manual transmission instead of the sequential manual gearbox. Thanks to the increase in the power, the Isuzu D-Max superute can do a 0-100 kmph run in around 6 seconds. Some might call it beginner's luck but Isuzu is leading the championship in Australia.
For the Filipinos who are looking forward to buying an adventurous version of the Isuzu D-Max, the Japanese automaker recently launched the 2019 Isuzu D-Max Boondock in the country. The off-road special edition comes based on the D-MAX 3.0L LS variant and is offered in Cosmic Black and Galena Gray color options.
Moreover, there are two variants of the new special edition of the pickup truck - the D-MAX 3.0 4x2 LS MT Boondock and the D-MAX 3.0 4x2 LS AT Boondock are priced at Php 1,390,000 and Php 1,455,000, respectively.
