Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - What to expect?
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is long overdue in the Philippines market. The SUV was first shown in the year 2016 at the 6th Philippine International Motor Show and post that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation delivered five Outlander PHEVs to the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources. However,
we are yet to see the electric EV make its local debut and be available for the general public. The Outlander PHEV is already up for sale in markets like Australia and Canada, where it is doing pretty well.
So, the question is when it will arrive in the local market? Well, we can’t say that for sure, but whenever that happens, we are sure it’ll generate hype as EVs are the future of the auto market. What we can tell you is, what the expect from this Mitsubishi EV?
Starting with the design
Well, like all the modern-day Mitsubishi cars, the Outlander PHEV displays the brand’s Dynamic Shield design language. The front profile of the car is to die for; it’s strong, edgy, and so masculine, it reminds of the Xpander. We aren’t sure about the exact specifications but are hoping for LED lighting units all round.
The model available elsewhere features halogen headlights with auto on/off, LED DRLs, fog lights, power-folding & heated ORVMs with side indicators, rain-sensing wipers, windshield wiper de-icer, roof spoiler, roof rails, shark fin antenna, 18-inch alloy wheels, and rear privacy glass. We hope the Philippines-spec Outlander PHEV carries forward all the above-mentioned exterior elements. Overall the Outlander’s body structure gives out an empowering vibe, which is sure to attract a lot of attention when on the road.
Cabin comfort at its best
The Outlander is a family car with all the flexibility and versatility needed. The car is spacious enough for five adults and as the battery is stored underneath the interior space is maximized. It also lowers the centre of gravity for enhanced handling and safety. You can fold the rear seat down and make extra space for all your luggage. There’s also generous cargo space underneath the boot where you can store the charging cable. Making the loading and unloading process simple is the tailgate release button that automatically opens and closes the tailgate.
Further increasing the comfort levels are equipment like - 8‑way power-adjustable driver’s and passenger seat, heated front seats, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, front & rear USB port, rear-seat air vents, dual‑zone automatic climate control, power door locks, power windows with driver-controlled auto, up/down for all windows, illuminated power window switches, power remote liftgate, 2‑volt power outlet, auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, and center armrest with cupholders.
A broad range of modern gears
The premium-ness of the SUV is reflected on the inside too with the wide range of hi-tech features on offer. On the centre of the dash lies a 7-inch Smartphone Link Display audio system that supports Apple CarPay (hopefully Android Auto as well in the Philippines), send text messages and make phone calls via the large display or voice command.
It’s a safer way to use your phone inside the car. You can also talk to Google and access the most common features like Google Play Music and Google Maps. Further, the luxurious interior of the Outlander PHEV is remarkably silent, and one can feel the premium-ness via leather seating surfaces. The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering is mounted with cruise control, Bluetooth, and audio and is available with a heated feature. All this is topped with a power sunroof and automatic climate dual-zone control.
Superior powerplant
The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is anything but ordinary. It brings together quietness and superior efficiency of an EV. Further, the handling, performance, and stability of the Super All-Wheel Control and safety and versatility of the SUV can handle all the essential things in life.
Under the hood, is a twin 60 kW electric motors that develop energy via a 12 kWh lithium-ion drive battery along with a supremely efficient 2.0-litre MIVEC petrol engine. Here both efficiency and performance are optimized based on the driving needs. The advance hybrid tech scans the driving needs and automatically picks among three drive modes - EV, Series Hybrid, and Parallel Hybrid. Overall the Outlander PHEV delivers a comfortable, quiet ride with sufficient power to take on any road condition while being extremely efficient.
All-around safety
Mitsubishi understands that there is nothing more important than safety of individuals, both inside and outside the car. And so, it has packed the Outlander PHEV with several advanced safety features. Included in the list are - Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), acoustic vehicle alert system, advanced dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags, driver’s knee airbag, and
anti‑theft engine immobilizer.
