Mitsubishi Strada: All about the Japanese pickup
It hasn’t been too long since the newest version of the Japanese pickup was launched in the Philippine market. The muscular and sharper than before Strada is a mid-size pickup with most of the boxes ticked. However, leading the pack in the Philippines market won’t be a cakewalk, especially with the opponents like Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50, Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Hilux, and Foton Thunder.
The competition is cutthroat and we can’t wait to unfold some of the vital aspects of the new Mitsubishi Strada which will not only help you in knowing the pickup inside out but also assist you in making a wise decision while selecting a pickup for your commercial as well as personal needs. In its third-generation now, Mitsubishi Strada looks solid on paper and style. Let’s dig into the details and know what’s really on offer.
Design
It is something worth talking about. The new “dynamic shield” design concept, according to Mitsubishi, “communicates a powerful and reassuring sense of protection”. As a result, the Strada is more authoritative in appearance and shares its front fascia with siblings like Xpander, Montero Sport, and ASX. A fairly good amount of work has been done in order to make it tougher than ever.
Not just toughness but the automaker has also taken care of its sleekness and sportiness to attract new customers and dominate the mid-size pickup segment. The re-contoured curves and sharper body lines make up its dominating profile while the high hood and new lighting design with LED projector headlamps and front grille contribute to its macho image. The chrome highlights around the body give it an upmarket look.
Dashboard
The inside of the pickup is as distinguishing and impactful as its exterior. The cabin gets numerous amenities like a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, AUX, and USB connectivity, GPS (standard across the range), intelligently designed storage compartments, and USB charging slot. The centre console has been revised for the good and looks much more dominating & attractive than before. There is a new steering wheel to comfort the driver with adequate padding and multiple easy-to-access controls.
Power
The Mitsubishi Strada specs show that the Japanese pickup draws power from an in-line four-cylinder DOHC turbocharged 2.4-litre diesel engine that churns out 181 PS of maximum power and 430 Nm of peak torque. It comes with Variable Geometry Turbo and MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) system as well.
There is enough power to carry out regular activities in addition to offering leisure trips with your family away from the city in the mountains or woods. According to the automaker, the pickup is ready to take on different kinds of roads in varied conditions. There is a Super Select 4WD system option available that widens the door of possibilities for this robust pickup. It is time for you to get ready and experience the awesomeness of this pickup because it is all ready to go to places.
Comfort
Apart from well-cushioned fabric seating, legroom, headroom, and ease of storage, what else comes to your mind when you hear comfort? Suspension, isn’t it? The better the suspension is, the more is the comfort. The automaker says that the new Strada now comes with larger rear dampers with more oil than before, meaning it will handle well and offer a pleasing riding experience especially to the passengers seated at the rear. So, if you are one from the back seat, this is the thing for you to cheer about.
Safety
With the new Strada, there is plenty to count on. While the features like Hill Start Assist (HSA), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), and Active Stability Traction Control (ASTC) are offered as standard, the owners of the top-spec 4WD variant will be benefitted by additional features like Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS), and Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM). The braking has been improved as well thanks to the larger front discs and brake callipers.
There are six variants available which all come equipped with a 6-speed transmission (both auto and manual) namely GT 4WD A/T, GLS 4WD M/T, GLS 2WD A/T, GLS 2WD M/T, GLX Plus 2WD A/T, GLX Plus 2WD M/T.
