Mitsubishi Strada enters the race circuit

MANILA: Trucks are generally expected and assumed to race or wander on dirt tracks, while the sophisticated race circuits are dedicated to the mean machines. However, with the world evolving, things have changed and now we have a circuit race especially for pickup trucks. Called the “SuperUtes”,

the pickup truck race takes place in Australia. But we are to talk about the Strada, aren’t we? It hasn’t been too long since the all-new 2019 Mitsubishi Strada or Triton was unveiled in front of the word and the pickup has already stepped on the race circuit.

Just to let you know, this is no custom shop modifying the Strada and competing in the race, instead, it is Mitsubishi, the Japanese automaker itself who has put its feet on the track with the 2019 Strada. The pickup intended for the race in Australia does not hold too many differences when compared to the standard Strada.

However, to squeeze every possible drop of power from the pickup, Mitsubishi has stripped it down and has installed a roll-cage, bucked driver seat, safety harness, and an adjustable coilover suspension setup along with an intrusive rear differential.

Under the hood is the same 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel engine seen on the standard Strada, albeit with an intercooler, upgraded turbo, intake manifold, radiator, oil sump, and engine management system. Mitsubishi claims that the Triton SuperUte can reach a top speed of 240 kmph thanks to the 350 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 550 Nm it gets from its engine.

At SuperUtes 2019, Mitsubishi Strada will be locking horns with the likes of Holden (Chevrolet) Colorado, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, Toyota Hilux, and Ford Ranger. How well did you like this side of pickup trucks?
