Nissan Terra: Features explained
With a good product lineup to offer to the Filipinos, Nissan Philippines wanted to fill up the gap it had between the X-Trail and Patrol. This void plays an important role in the local market because cars like Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X, and Ford Everest fall in this space and we all know that they sell like hotcakes.
To want a piece of that market share, Nissan desperately wanted to have a new product in this SUV segment. So, it came up with the Terra. Nissan knew that its Navara is a very capable machine and is also very popular in the country. So, it wisely used Navara’s platform and launched the Nissan Terra.
Since Terra has borrowed Navara’s foundation, it has got a plethora of common parts. But to spice things up and have people’s perspective towards the Terra be that of an SUV and not a pickup truck, Nissan has added some extra pinch of luxury here and there. Let us discuss those features.
Exterior features
Imposing design
In terms of looks, the Terra appears to be beefier than the Navara. It carries a stance that we find similar to that of the Fortuner and likes. This is a good thing because those are the rivals that the Terra has to beat. At the front, is the same old Nissan V-motion grille with a lot of chrome.
It seems this time things have been altered a bit to give the car a much bolder look. The Terra stands tall and clearly demands attention. It has a good road presence, and it would be noticed by others around for sure.
LED headlamps
The LED headlamps of the Terra promise to offer good visibility in dark surroundings. They also make sure the sex appeal of the SUV is maintained with their sharp and attractive design. Also, the incorporated LED daytime running lights, or signature lights help others to spot the Terra even from a distance in the crowd.
Stylish 18-inch wheels
To suit the aggressive appearance of the Terra, Nissan has given it a set of 18-inch 6-split spoke machine-finished aluminium-alloy wheels with sporty charcoal accents. They look great and are wrapped with some high-quality rubbers that pledge to keep the grip in check at all times irrespective of the terrain underneath.
Sturdy running boards
Being a large vehicle, getting inside and exiting the Terra would have been quite a task if it didn’t have the running boards. These sturdy boards not only ensures easy ingress and egress for passengers but also add to the overall off-road look of the SUV.
Interior features
Spacious cabin
The Terra is a 7-seater SUV, and therefore, it has got plenty of cabin space for each occupant. There is more than sufficient leg and headroom for the rear passengers. The last row passengers have got a decent amount of space as well. Perhaps, tall riders would face some issue adjusting to the lack of under-thigh support on these seats.
Color and fabric options
The cabin of the Terra is a luxurious place to be in. To take this a step further, Nissan has provided three options for the color and fabric of the interior.
The dashboard and rest of the area except the seats remain black (greyish), but you can pick the color and fabric of the seats. There is brown leather, black suede-like, and black knit fabric. This is a welcoming feature and we appreciate Nissan’s gesture towards customisation.
Advanced 7-inch color touchscreen
The 7-inch large color touchscreen in the Terra is very easy to use and comes with a lot of features. It supports Bluetooth connectivity, while USB and Auxiliary inputs let you charge and use your devices on the go. It also comes with smartphone integration.
Dual-zone automatic climate control
This feature enhances the overall cabin comfort level. The driver and front passenger can each adjust the temp to their liking.
Rear AC vents
To provide conditioned air to the rear passengers, we have AC vents mounted on the ceiling of the SUV. Each passenger has his own vent to keep him cool.
Zero gravity seats
Nissan has used its Zero gravity seats in the Terra as well. We are familiar with this concept and must say it works. Inspired by the weightless posture of astronauts in space, Nissan engineers designed front seats that provide generous support and may help reduce fatigue.
Engine and performance
The Nissan Terra specs list a powerful 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 190 PS of max power and 450 Nm of torque. The transmission here is a 7-speed automatic unit that offers smooth-shifting experience.
There is also a 6-speed manual gearbox for people who want a more engaging driving experience. Nissan has also provided some extra off-road features like shift-on-the-fly 4-wheel-drive system which allows you to switch between 2WD, 4H, and 4LO without stopping.
Safety features
Nissan takes safety very seriously, that’s why it has filled the Terra with a plethora of safety features. We have got hill start assist, electronic locking rear differential, 4-wheel active brake limited slip, hill descent control,
ABS, Nissan’s advanced airbag system, EBD, brake assist, vehicle dynamic control, and tyre pressure monitoring system. Topping it all is Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility system that offers an all-around view, off-road information display, intelligent rear view mirror, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and much more.
These were some of the top features of the Terra. There are still many more left to discuss. We are sure that just by getting to know the aforementioned details about the SUV you must have started liking it.
That’s how good the Terra is. The Nissan Terra price in the Philippines begins at Php 1.5 million for the base model and rises up to Php 2.1 million. It is available in 5 variants and 7 different colors - Brilliant Silver, Galaxy Black, Fiery Red, Aspen Pearl White, Earth Brown, Flare Metallic Gold, and Lunar Metallic Grey.
