Range Rover is Wimbledon's new vehicle partner
The upcoming tennis tournament will utilize a fleet of hybrid Range Rovers.
MANILA: Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) Range Rover is now the official vehicle partner of The Championships, Wimbledon (or simply Wimbledon) tennis tournament.
Thanks to the partnership between the famed British sport utility vehicle (SUV) nameplate and the oldest tennis tournament in history, the participating players, their teams, and the sporting event’s officials will be ferried by Range Rover models from 2024 onwards.
Specifically, Land Rover will provide a fleet of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrids (PHEV). For better efficiency, official venues to be used in The Championships will feature on-site vehicle charging facilities. According to Land Rover, this will fully utilize the hybrid SUV’s 75 kilometers of fully electric range.
According to the British car brand, Fully leveraging the Range Rover’s PHEV capabilities likewise aligns with Wimbledon’s environment-positive commitment. As a side note, several tournament venues already rely on renewable energy.
As stated by the Manging Director for Range Rover Geraldine Ingham, the upcoming tennis tournament, which is scheduled for July 1-14, 2024, will be the right opportunity to highlight the model lineup.
“As an iconic British cultural event watched by millions across the world, The Championships provides the ideal opportunity for Range Rover to engage with our global clients with creative storytelling, that perfectly captures the elegance and refinement of our vehicles and the synergies between our two modern luxury brands,” Ingham said.
The All England Club Chairwoman Deborah Jevans CBE was delighted to continue The Championships, Wimbledon, with JLR. Particularly pleasing to her organization is the PHEV powertrains currently utilized by the Range Rover model line.
“I am particularly pleased with the inclusion of a significant number of lower emission plug-in hybrid vehicles in the fleet, with a focus on as many journeys as possible being delivered in EV mode. This is another step towards our goal of achieving net zero operation emissions by 2030,” Jevans said.
