Stuck in the mountains? Mitsubishi Strada has got you covered

MANILA: Modified pickup trucks seem to be the trend these days. Ever since the newest and facelifted Strada was unveiled, the pickup has been launched in the Philippines along with many other markets and has also entered race circuits in Australia.

As if this wasn’t enough, Mitsubishi has come up with a mountain rescue Strada. It is not only the name that makes this Strada a mountain rescue vehicle as the pickup has actually got what it takes to be one.

Called the L200 in the European market, this Strada also houses a new motor under its hood. The mill is an improved and reworked version of the 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine and gets AdBlue technology that makes it even more environment-friendly.

While there are no technical specifications made available by Mitsubishi yet, we expect this enhanced mill to make more than 177 PS of maximum power, the same figure is churned out by the non-AdBlue motor. A six-speed manual and six-speed automatic are the two transmission options available.

Just like the 2.4-litre Strada, this mountain rescue Strada also gets Super Select II 4WD system with Off-Road Mode Selector. This unique Strada rides on all-terrain tyres. The mountain rescue pickup can pull other vehicles or itself out of complex conditions, thanks to the integrated winch that the pickup comes equipped with.

Rescuers can also mount recovery boards on the bed and there is also an electrical socket on top of the bed cover. The pickup also gets taller roof rails and a pair of LED lights to help in working during nights.

The mountain rescue Strada will not be put in the showrooms for display, however, the pickup could be sighted at mountain bases overseas. As Mitsubishi Strada has got years and years of off-roading experience, the pickup should have no trouble in rescuing the vehicles and people stuck in difficult terrains.
