Suzuki Jimny All Grip Pro - Features we love
All car makers aim to manufacture their every vehicle with every module of at least a threshold quality. And this is also the basic principle in the making of any machine. However, the automakers not only face the necessity to build vehicles but also to sell them. In order to do so, they house something unique to each series of their vehicles that will set it apart from others.
The case is the same with Suzuki, which, in the segment of off-road machines has a beast named Jimny. Obviously, Jimny accoutres all that a four-wheeler should, like a decent powertrain, good built, safety modules, etc. But several things allow the Jimny to differentiate itself from other four-wheelers. Also, these features define the vehicle’s abilities and also are the same that we love.
Practicality in every approach
One would barely disagree with the fact that Jimny has a complete utilitarian approach from every aspect. There is no doubt that the four-wheeler has many fancy make-ups, but that too strictly follows the line of utility. Our words for this particular part of the off-road coaster starts with the body design. And the first word that can be spelt is ‘boxy’. Yes! Jimny has a boxy frame, and the box has an added layer of protection from all sides.
There is a segmented front grille flanked by circular headlight units and tiny turn indicators. All the three are housed in a separate body plate. An unsegmented lower grille follows this along with a set of small fog lamps. The bottom end is highlighted with a bold bumper covering that doubles the layer of protection of the front fiasco.
Being an off-road king, Jimny comes with impressive ground clearance and spacious wheel wells. Also, there are thick wheel fenders that continue in the middle as side steps, again a reflection of fancy utility!
At the back, an extra wheel dominates the tailgate, which is must, and the taillights are integrated with the lower bumper.
Sterling interior with a hefty of features and great space
Jimny not only deals with the uneven roads but also with the long trend of ignoring the interior in off-road vehicles. And Jimny does this with equipping a wide array of features for smart vehicle management and also for a fair degree of entertainment. The dash houses a nine-inch infotainment panel with multimedia features and connectivity options.
Highly comfortable seating layout wrapped with soft materials has more than a decent head and leg room. In a bid to be contemporary, the vehicle also retains a few classic off-road characteristics. The instrument cluster is analogue and above that sits a multi-functional three-spoke power steering wheel.
Robust and sturdy built with every module contributing to the off-road ability
From nose to tail and from head to base, we find every part of Jimny doing the work to enhance its off-road abilities. It has a high ladder frame foundation to deal with all type of terrains. For maximum traction, it arms a set of front and rear long stroke 3-link underpinnings,
which is connected to sturdy full wheel axles. Apart from better traction, this also improves the vehicle’s stability and control to a great extent. It coasts on 15-inch radial alloy wheels, which in turn, is directed by a power steering with adjustable column and a turning radius of 4.9 metres results in excellent handling. Coil spring type shock absorbers coupled with multi-link suspension units deals excellently with difficult roads.
To power the vehicle, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder 16 Valve Gasoline Engine makes its way under the hood that churns out a maximum power of 100 hp and a peak torque of 130 Nm. The power delivery is not the judgemental thing for an off-road vehicle, but who can forget that Jimny is transferring the drive to all wheels for almost 50 years!
Jimny is undoubtedly a professional player in dealing with bad roads, and the Filipinos love to take this beast to trial the lahar fields in Pampanga and winding the roads up in Baguio. In order to quench the thirst of facing the challenging terrains, Jimny has more than enough to make it an ideal choice.
