The all-new Isuzu D-Max will be available starting tomorrow

MANILA: Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) fortifies its lineup with the arrival of the all-new Isuzu D-Max. The third generation of the popular pickup took a while to get here after it debuted in Thailand in 2019, but it appears to be well worth the wait.

Isuzu is now positioning the D-Max as boasting the three key values: bold, emotional, and sporty. Its new look is headlined by a hefty grille in gun metal color, and redesigned front bumper (with restyled fog lamps and signal lamps). The bumper guard is now rendered in dark gray. At the back are new rear combination lamps and a seamlessly integrated two-step rear bumper.

The workhorse is powered by either of two engines, Isuzu’s new 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX mill delivering 190ps and 450Nm, or the reliable RZ4E-TC, which has been improved, good for150ps and 350Nm. These are mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The top trim of the line is the D-Max 3.0 LS-E, said to “still embody the versatility and durability of its predecessor while keeping its... lifestyle vibe just like the LS-A, but even better.” Isuzu maintains that the D-Max is a product that can only have been possible through its experience as a truck manufacturer, while “breaking the barrier between trucks and passenger cars.”

The D-Max gets a new chassis featuring larger side rails and eight cross members for greater torsional rigidity.

The top variant gets new 18-inch, 265/60 all-terrain tires, matte dark-gray alloy wheels, dark gray over fenders (which bear a stronger character compared the outgoing generation’s), dark gray side steps, and door handles in gun-metal hue. The radiator grille is also rendered in the same color.

The D-Max boasts an impressive 800mm water wading capacity, and gets a single-piece aluminum tail shaft.

Inside, its steering wheel has been redesigned and engineered with tilt and telescopic adjustment for greater convenience for the driver. The gearshift has also been altered for better control.

Anti-lock brakes are standard, as well as electronic brakeforce distribution with brake assist. Other safety features include electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist and hill descent control. There’s also a brake override system.

In the 3.0 LS-E trim, the D-Max gets a complement of Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS) additions for enhanced safety not just for the D-Max occupants but even those around the vehicle. The D-Max does this through active and safety measures enabled by sensors and cameras which continuously scan the environment.

Among these features are forward collision warning, turn assist, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, manual speed limiter, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking aid, multi-collision brake, and pedal misapplication.

Depending on trim, the D-Max receives a 4.2-inch HD color TFT-LCD MID display screen on the instrument panel, along with a 10-inch full touchscreen monitor with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, plus Bluetooth, Aux-in, offline navigation, and an inclinometer.

The Isuzu D-Max comes with a three-year/100,000-km. warranty, and is available in three new colors (Valencia Orange, Onyx Black, and Mercury Silver) along with Red Spinel, Sapphire Blue, Galena Gray, and Splash White.
