The next-generation Porsche Macan will be an all-electric car

MANILA: Porsche has already announced that the upcoming Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo will be all-electric cars. And now, the German automaker has confirmed that the next-generation Macan will also be an all-electric offering.

With this electrification spree, the Macan will be the first vehicle from Porsche current product lineup to convert into an all-electric car. This move will be a significant step moving further in the quest of electrifying 50 % of Porsche vehicles by 2025. Mr. Oliver Blume, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG said,

“Electromobility and Porsche go together perfectly, not just because they share a high-efficiency approach, but especially because of their sporty character. By 2022 we will be investing more than six billion euros in electric mobility, and by 2025 50% of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system”.

Both Taycan and Macan will underpin Porsche’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The cars will feature an 800-volt electric drive system developed by both Porsche and Audi in conjunction. Set to step out on the roads by 2020,

the all-electric Macan will be produced at Leipzig factory in Germany. The automobile manufacturers are emphasising on the electrification of their vehicles in order to do away with conventional fuels like diesel.

Out of the 256,000 vehicles sold by Porsche in 2018, 86,000 were Macan only. The figures portray the immaculate dominance of Macan in the crossover market, especially in China. With the all-electric Macan coming soon,

the Philippines might lose out on the SUV as the infrastructure is not at par for electric vehicles. However, we hope that the infrastructure catches up with time and the all-new Macan makes its way to the Philippines as well.
