Toyota Fortuner: Features explained
Toyota Fortuner is one of those SUVs that you certainly don’t want to spot on your rearview mirror. It feels like the designers at Toyota were given clear directions to come up with something that would easily intimidate others on the road.
Well, good job there Toyota. And we are not complaining at all. Not only the design but its dimensions also play a role in scaring other cars.
Available in five variants, the Toyota Fortuner price starts at Php 1.6 million for the base model while the top-of-the-line model will set you back by Php 2.25 million. That’s a lot of money. Yes, the Fortuner is probably of on the expensive end of the spectrum but it does try to prove itself worthy of all those pesos by its features. So what are those features? Let’s talk about a few of them.
Exterior features
Toyota has put in a lot of effort to make sure its Fortuner is instantly recognizable. You wouldn’t mistake it for any other SUV thanks to its large LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights. Also, the large grille at the front that badges the brand’s logo makes it easier for people to identify this mammoth. And it’s not just that it’s big, it’s also good-looking.
The large alloy wheels wear some tough rubbers to make sure you cross most of the obstacles that you face on your path. The wheels also add to the style quotient of the car. Another great feature that enhances the overall appearance of the Fortuner is its floating roof-like design.
The blacked out D-pillar along with the black and large windows look fantastic. The rear of the new Fortuner has been kept busy by a pair of large two-piece combination LED tail lights. They are large enough to keep the SUV-ish stance consistent even at the back. We also like the roof-mounted rear spoiler that adds a bit of sportiness.
Interior features
Considering the size of the Fortuner, interior space is surely not going to be a problem. There’s more than sufficient room for everyone to sit comfortably even during long journeys. Toyota has also tried to provide a good amount of luxury here by using leather for seats, steering wheel, and even door trims. You’d also find some wood that brings along that premium feel.
The instrument cluster remains a conventional setup but it does get a 4.2-inch colour TFT multi-information display (MID) at the centre. There are a lot of cubby storage areas around the cabin. Toyota has also provided a 6.5-inch touch screen infotainment system that supports DVD, CD, AUX, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has a call function, audio streaming, and GPS. This infotainment system is not the most advanced one available in the market but gets the job done.
Powertrain
The Toyota Fortuner specs sheet is pretty diverse when it comes to the powertrain. There is a 2.4-litre diesel engine that produces 147 hp at 3,400 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,600 to 2,000 rpm. This engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic unit with sequential control. All the models with this engine are 4x2 models. Then there’s a bigger 2.7-litre petrol engine that churns out 163 hp at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.
It comes with a single transmission option - 6-speed automatic unit with sequential control. This variant also comes with 4x2 drive capability only. The last and the most powerful and expensive engine option is the 2.8-litre unit that has got 174 hp of max power that is produced at 3,400 rpm and 450 Nm of peak torque that kicks in at 1,600 to 2,400 rpm. Just like the petrol model, this also comes with only the automatic gearbox. However, unlike other variants, it has 4x4 drive capabilities.
Safety features
Toyota takes safety very seriously and that’s why the Fortuner comes with a number of safety features like the driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags, active traction control system, vehicle stability control, hill start assist control, differential lock, downhill assist control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, etc.
So there you go guys, these were some of the top features of the Toyota Fortuner. Note that the features mentioned here may not be available on all the variants of the car.
