What to expect from the MG 6?
We recently talked about what MG, the British automotive marque has in stock for the 2019 Manila International Auto Show. And today, we will talk about one of the vehicles MG will be bringing to the Philippines using the 2019 MIAS as a launchpad. The MG 6, a fastback sedan, will be launched at the show with ‘Fast is Back’ as its caption.
While some say sedans are now a thing of past, others still believe that they are here to stay and we also agree with the latter. Doing well in automobile markets since 2010, the MG 6 fastback sedan went under some serious hammering in 2017 and the updated car was provided with alluring looks along with enhanced mechanicals. Read on to know our expectations from the upcoming MG 6 in the Philippines.
Luring looks
They say looks are subjective and we agree. In our opinion, the MG 6 has got some elements which make the fastback sedan reminiscent to some other cars. There are the trendy LED DRLs along with projector type LED headlamps. The grille up front, if viewed from some distance, gives an impression of the diamond radiator unit by Mercedes-Benz.
An automobile expert could very easily identify the elements relating to Mazda, Jaguar, Infiniti, and others on the outside of the MG 6. Dimension wise, the sedan stands 4,695 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, and 1,462 mm tall. The wheelbase sits at 2,715 mm and the fastback sedan weighs 1320 kg.
Looking from the side, we see some very good looking alloys. The MG 6 rides on 16, 17, and 18-inch alloy wheels, depending on the variant. Moving above the wheels, there is a shoulder line running from the front headlamps all the way to the end of the rear door. This shoulder line provides MG 6 with a muscular yet sophisticated appearance.
Not to forget that the MG 6 is underpinned by the same platform that we find in the Roewe i6. The sedan also gets cornering lights, auto-levelling headlights, and headlight washer. At the rear, there are wrap-around styled LED taillamps and dual exhaust outlets. All in all, we expect a good looking car to land on the Filipino shores.
Ingenious interior
Once we hop inside the MG 6, we see a bold and contrasting theme incorporating red and black leather. The infotainment system consists of an 8-inch LCD infotainment system with Apple CarPaly among other features. There are also the 360-degree air conditioning vents which circulate the cool air evenly throughout the cabin. Moreover, the MG 6 also boasts features like multi-functional steering, push start/stop button, and a sunroof.
Coming to the space inside the car, we get a boot space of 424-litre which can be extended to 1170-litre by folding down the rear seats. The back bench is of 40:60 split type and the MG 6 also gets 22 storage compartments for tablets, phones, sunglasses, wallets, and other stuff. The interior on the MG 6 is nothing too impactful, however, it gets the job done and comes equipped with all the necessary features one would ever need.
Potent powertrain
Now let’s address one of the most important aspects of an automobile, the powertrain. The MG 6 houses under its hood a 1.5-litre turbocharged motor in all of its models. This engine is good enough for producing 171 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 250 Nm.
The power delivery is taken care of by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). Talking more about the performance of the car, the MG 6 can do a 0-100 kmph run in 7 seconds and returns a mileage of around 17.24 kmph.
Sterling safety
Moving on the safety, the sedan provides its occupants with a place as safe as a house thanks to multiple airbags, anti-lock braking system, hill start assist, cornering brake control, traction control, electronic brake distribution,
ISOFIX child seat mounts. Also, included in the list are speed sensitive door locking, rear parking camera, high mounted stop lamp, auto door unlock on impact, fuel pump inertial remember switch, vehicle immobiliser (engine immobilisation), energy-absorbing steering column, and others.
The MG 6 will make its debut in the Philippines in a matter of a few hours. Once launched at the 2019 Manila International Auto Show, the automaker should offer the sedan in Alpha and Trophy variants. The MG 6 price for the aforementioned variants would be around Php 1,068,888 and Php 1,188,888, respectively.
