When Mitsubishi Triton/Strada went to the gym

MANILA: It's the age of the pickup trucks, aren’t? It was not long ago when pickups were merely load-pullers, however, the winds have changed, and more and more people are now buying these then cargo-movers as lifestyle vehicles.

Which pickup is the best of the lot though? The answer is subjective and may differ in different regions depending on the kind of pickups available. Mitsubishi, the Japanese automobile manufacturer, has unveiled a customised Triton, or shall we say the Strada which is certainly at the top to be called the best pickup.

The automaker has given its pickup the title Triton Absolute, depicting the vehicle’s performance and looks. For starters, the Triton Absolute stands 50 mm taller than the standard model due to the updated suspension setup.

Giving the pickup that needed flair are the black alloy wheels clothed with Falken all-terrain tyres. The dual-tone skid plates at both the front and the rear also do more good than bad to the pickup. The cladding is also much thicker than before and provides the Triton Absolute with chunkier fenders and a wider stance.

Other inclusions on the pickup include an aerodynamic sports bar and a roof-mounted LED lightbar. This LED lightbar is pretty much the same embellishment that we saw on the mountain rescue L200 a few days ago. Bringing the good old days back is the Mitsubishi text stamped of the tailgate in big and bold letters. Any changes to the powertrain or inside the pickup,

even if made, remain undisclosed for now. While the automaker has said the Triton Absolute is just a concept, the pickup looks like a production model already. In a press release, Mitsubishi has cited that the Triton Absolute will be “showcased over the coming 12 months to gauge public interest and feedback”.

We hope Mitsubishi manages to witness the amount of interest they aim in the coming times so that the Triton Absolute makes its way to the trails pretty soon.
