Would you love to see the MG Windsor in PH?

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) has introduced the all-new Windsor electric vehicle (EV) for the Indian market, and it has plenty of characteristics that Filipino car buyers would also want. 

For example, it comes in an attractive but unique crossover format, which was optimized for space and comfort. Moreover, its spec sheet lists plenty of creatures and driving features to qualify it as a cozy but competent daily driver. 

So, what is the all-new MG Windsor offering? 

Exterior

On the outside, the Windsor is underpinned by what MG calls the “AeroGlide” design language. It appears downright futuristic, and it appears to have a rounded version of the typical high-riding crossover.

Up front, it gets the usual closed-off grille of an EV, but its front fascia utilizes a multi-tiered look with its LED lighting layout. Specifically, it sports an LED daytime running lamp bar, while the main LED headlamp clusters are found on the lower portion of the vehicle’s front face. 

On the upper portions of the vehicle’s front end, it received a short hood section, which smoothly led upwards to a diagonally aligned windshield. The said windshield transitions to a sizable glass goof and towards an equally large rear window. 

From the side, the carmaker opted to eschew character lines in favor of subtle decorative inserts. It also has flush door handles, as well as a subtle amount of black plastic claddings on its wheel arches.

Interior

Inside the Windsor is a cabin filled to the brim with soft-touch surfaces combined with classy wood-style trimmings and gold decorative pieces. The seats of the vehicle are also wrapped in quilted leather. 

For its front cabin, the model provides seat cooling and six-way power adjustability for the driver’s seat. It also has a tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, a smart entry system, a push-to-start button, cruise control, and a fully digital 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster. 

All inside are kept cool by an automatic air-conditioning system. Added comfort is provided by front and rear center armrests, while a 60:40 split-folding rear seat ensures the versatility of the model’s cargo space.

For reference, MG claims that the Windsor provides a default trunk space of 604 liters.

For onboard entertainment and navigation, the electric-powered crossover is equipped with a 10.1-inch or 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On higher-spec trims, the model was kitted out with a nine-piece speaker system. 

Safety

Apart from its feature-rich cabin, the MG Windsor also boasts a lot of safety gear. 

As standard, it comes with a total of six airbags, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, anti-lock braking, a 360-degree view camera, rear parking sensors, and auto-hold, among others. 

Additionally, the India-spec model has access to the various capabilities of the MG i-Smart companion smartphone application. Its wide feature list includes but are not limited to: 

• Digital key sharing
• Anti-theft immobilization
• Live location sharing and tracking
• Quiet mode
• Emergency calling
• Vehicle start alarm
• Vehicle status checking
• Critical tire pressure voice alerts
• Remote car locking and unlocking

Powertrain

Propelling the MG Windsor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor capable of producing up to 134 horsepower and 200 Newton-meters of torque. 

From a single charge, its 38-kilowatt-hour battery can provide a cruising range of up to 332 kilometers, according to the Modified Indian Driving Cycle testing procedure. 

When using a 7.2-kilowatt charger, battery levels can reach zero to 100 percent in 6.5 hours, but the model also has a fast charging capability that can reach zero to 80 percent state of charge in just 55 minutes. 

Availability

As of its launch, the MG Windsor is available in India. It is also sold in China as the Baojun Yunduo. 

Regardless, it has a relatively accessible starting price of 13.498 million Indian Rupee, which is equivalent to around P914,000 at current exchange rates. For that price, the said model may fit into the MG Philippines lineup as an EV option for those wanting a more affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV.
