The GWM H9 is available in three variants including the GWM Haval H9 Standard, GWM Haval H9 Luxury, and Super Luxury.
Which is the most value-for-money variant?
The GWM Haval H9 Luxury is the most value-for-money variant as it comes with a lavishly appointed cabin, boxy retro design, and seven-seat versatility. It offers all the essentials of a premium SUV making it a great choice for large families.
What features does the GWM H9 get?
The GWM H9 is a large-sized SUV that looks similar to the premium flagship SUVs manufactured by luxury automakers. The front of this vehicle is defined by its square headlights with daytime round LED running lights. At the rear, a side-opening tailgate, vertically arranged square taillights and a spare external tire box reinforce the rugged appearance of this vehicle. It measures 856 mm in length,1926 mm in width, and 1900 mm in height. It features a bold grille with a central “HAVAL” logo and thick horizontal chrome bars. The blocky headlamps are a bit curvy at the outer and upper edges and they look premium with the daytime running LEDs and projector bulbs below them.
The upright conventional stance with a high ground clearance and lifted front bonnet give it a large vehicle appeal. The rounded wheel arches also give it a formidable look. However, the alloy wheels seem to be very simple. The rear profile is glorified by the vertical tail lamps that look like a Christmas tree on the outer edges, along with a trapezoidal housing for the license plate and roof spoiler at the top.
The interior of the GWM H9 will make you awe-struck with its beautifully executed and styled materials. The cabin exudes the perfect mix of walnut and black-coloured leather and faux and aluminium wood inserts, though, at a few places, it seems to be a bit overdone. The interior offers cutting-edge technology, premium comfort, and generous space leading to a connected and refined driving experience for the passengers. Ventilated seats offer a refreshing airflow, keeping you extremely comfortable even during the hottest drives.
The multi-functional four-spoke steering wheel seems to be inspired by a yacht that looks good to hold and see, and the instrument console that is binocularly themed comes in between with a large 8-inch coloured MID making the field of vision of the driver even more attractive. A fine curve that has been finished in faux wood divides the dashboard into two parts. A large touchscreen infotainment system is housed in the broad centre console and its controls have been positioned just below it.
With tons of modern amenities such as an electric sunroof, ventilated, powered, and heated front seats with massage function, automatic three-zone climate control, push-button start with keyless entry, exterior rearview mirrors, air purification system, an audio system with subwoofer and nine speakers and heated steering make you feel premium.
How spacious is it?
The GWM H9 offers optimum storage for passengers. It has a practical and spacious layout. While other manufacturers are making attempts to squeeze the seats of the third row into mid-sized SUVs, the H9 offers per passenger around 700mm of leg space. With extra space below and more room per passenger above, long family trips become very enjoyable with this vehicle. While the front seats are very comfortable and lush, the second row is wide and can easily accommodate up to three average-sized adults.
What engine and transmission options are available?
The GWM H9 is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. As a standard, it is mated with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that ensures smooth delivery of power. The engine produces around 218 PS of maximum power contributing to strong performance. Its capability is enhanced by 324 Nm of peak torque output. This combination leads to the perfect balance of refinement and power. Its robust setup makes it ideal for both off-road and on-road adventures.
What’s the mileage of GWM H9?
The GWM H9 offers a fuel efficiency of around 9.1 Kmpl. While it may not be the most frugal option, it suits its capability and robust build quality.

It comes with many safety features including curtain, front and side airbags, rear and front parking sensors, ABS with EBD, reverse camera, traction control, electronic stability program, brake assist, roll movement intervention, hill start assist, hill descent control, electronic differential lock and electronic parking brake. The details about the colour options of the GWM H9 are yet to be unveiled.
Should you buy the GWM H9?

Wherever you’re going, the HAVAL H9 has the cargo space, capacity, and capability to explore in style and with complete peace of mind! GWM Haval H9 Interior & Features
While the Haval H9 might not make you go gaga with its imposing yet bland exterior design, the way its interior cabin has been styled and executed certainly will. The cabin is a good mix of black and walnut coloured leather as well as aluminium and faux wood inserts, though at some places it looks a bit overdone. The lower variants, though, get a little fancier looking dual-tone black and beige or all-black layouts.
The four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel inspired from that of a yacht looks good to see and hold, and the binocular themed instrument console with a large 8-inch coloured MID in between make the driver’s field of vision even more attractive. A fine curve finished in faux wood separates the dashboard into two parts, with the broad centre console housing a large touchscreen infotainment system with its controls positioned just below of it, and vertical AC vents flanking the centre console.
The areas where the Haval H9 scores even more brilliantly is the amount of space as well as comfort and convenience features it packs in. With a long extensive list consisting of bits like electric sunroof, powered, heated and ventilated front seats with massage function, push-button start with keyless entry, three-zone automatic climate control, heated steering wheel, and exterior rearview mirrors, air purification system and an audio system with nine speakers and subwoofer, the Haval H9 make you feel cocooned and special, something which becomes even more significant with ample room in all the three rows.
Haval H9 Exterior
As said above, the Haval H9 is one large-sized SUV which has dimensions equivalent to that of a premium flagship SUV from luxury automakers. With large dimensions and upright stance, it looks quite imposing on the block. However, the overall design looks a bit dated and old school and needs a mild refresh now.
At the front, what catches attention towards the Haval H9 is its large trapezoidal front grille with bulging upper line and rounded lower edges. With five chrome slats in between and full chrome surrounds, it definitely makes the H9 look intimidating. The blocky headlamps with curves at upper and outer edges look premium with the presence of projector bulbs and daytime running LEDs below them.
It is the side profile where the Haval H9 showcases its old school appeal in the way it has been styled. The conventional upright stance with a lifted front bonnet and high ground clearance give it an appeal of a large vehicle, and so do the large rounded wheel arches. However, the alloy wheels here look a tad too simple. The rear profile of the Haval H9 is glorified by the presence of vertical Christmas tree-like tail lamps on outer edges, along with roof spoiler at the top and trapezoidal housing for the license plate on the boot lid.
GWM Haval H9 Ride & Handling
The big and bulky looking Haval H9 has a softened setup for the double-wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. While this suspension setup feels comfortable for low-speed driving and extensive long runs, the body roll and pitching movement is a bit pronounced and the light steering further dilutes the high-speed driving dynamics even more.
Haval H9 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Haval H9 sources its power from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under its hood, which here is married to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The engine here produces a maximum power output of 218 PS, while the peak torque output is rated at 324 Nm.
GWM Haval H9 Braking & Safety
The list of safety features of the Haval H9 is as detailed as that of the comfort and convenience features and includes things like front, side and curtain airbags, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, ABS with EBD, traction control, brake assist, electronic stability program, hill start assist, roll movement intervention, hill descent control, electronic parking brake, and electronic differential lock.
Haval H9 Verdict
The Haval H9 might not be an impeccably executed product in terms of fit and finish and visual appeal as it looks from a distance. However, with all the big car appeal in and out and an exhaustive list of features onboard, it surely has got the ultra big luxury car appeal for the conventional audience.
