MV Agusta Superveloce

The MV Agusta Superveloce has a retro influence in its design, which is not seen in other offerings from the Italian brand. This very influence helps the Superveloce to stick to its roots of traditional café racer ethos, without compromising on the modernity and outrageousness for which the brand MV Agusta is known.

The front profile of the MV Agusta Superveloce is where much of its visual appeal is concentrated, with this neo-retro café racer getting a massive and highly curvaceous cowl. With a rounded all-LED headlamp and daytime running LEDs sitting at its frontal tip, this cowl also gets a curved, slanted and transparent windscreen with a crossbar over it in the upper half. This curved front headlamp cowl flows sideways and merges with the lower side fairing panels, thus making the MV Agusta Superveloce one of the very few café racers that come with sports bike-like side fairings.

The fairing panels of the MV Agusta Superveloce partially hide the black-themed engine, ALS steel tubular trellis frame and the underbelly part of the triple exhaust setup that has angular cuts for the exhaust ports. The fuel tank of the Superveloce has a muscular design with nicely carved knee recesses. While the 800 variant has simpler-looking black alloy wheels, the S variant has more exclusive cross-spoke wheels that add more retro essence to its design.

Like most of the MV Agusta motorcycles, the Superveloce also has a floating tail section, which here has an even more minimalist and sleeker look. This tail section has a rider’s seat which is curved from its back part and an almost flat pillion seat that stretches to the rear end of the pillion cowl. The rear profile of the MV Agusta Superveloce is extremely minimalistic in its appearance with just a rounded tiny LED tail lamp covering the rear tip of the tail section, with the motorcycle showing off its rear tyre in all its glory without any add-on hugger over it.

The MV Agusta Superveloce’s overall design might have a retro pinch in it, but not its full-TFT 5.5-inch instrument console, which has been shared with Dragster. This modern-looking unit has all the details on offer, including a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and trip computer with multiple display modes. Like a traditional café racer, the MV Agusta Superveloce also gets clip-on handlebars and rear-set foot pegs.

The MV Agusta Superveloce shares its ALS steel tubular frame, upside-down telescopic hydraulic fork with anodized fork legs, rebound-compression damping and spring preload external and separate adjustment at the front and Progressive, Sachs single shock absorber with rebound and compression damping and spring preload adjustment at the rear with the Dragster. This sport-tuned suspension might make the Superveloce’s ride quality a bit stiff, but makes the motorcycle feel sharp and agile in its cornering abilities and on straights. Equipped with 120/70 ZR17 front and 200/55 ZR17 rear tyres over its 17-inch wheels, the Superveloce has dual 320mm disc brakes at the front and a single 220mm disc at the rear.

The MV Agusta Superveloce shares its four-stroke, liquid-cooled, inline-three, 798cc engine with the Dragster and F3 range, but here, it is in a slightly different state of tune. With a maximum power output of 147 PS and a maximum torque output of 88 Nm, the MV Agusta Superveloce is more powerful than the Dragster on which it is based. The 6-speed transmission with wet clutch has also been shared with the Dragster.

Even the safety equipment level of the MV Agusta Superveloce comes from the Dragster, which includes 6-axis inertial measurement unit with cornering ABS, cornering traction control and front lift control, cruise control, launch control and four riding modes – Sport, Race, Rain and Custom. 

The MV Agusta Superveloce is for those who love the extremity of the performance and riding dynamics of the Dragster but want a slightly less aggressive but equally dramatic visual appeal.
