Exploring the ‘5S Formula’ of the Kia Stonic

Kia launched its five-seat sports utility vehicle in the Philippines through a virtual event amid the pandemic in October 2020. Although it was introduced in a “new normal” way, the media were still able to get a first hands-on experience of the Stonic as Kia Philippines gathered them to showcase the crossover’s so-called “5S Formula” that makes it stand out from the brand’s previous SUV offerings.

Style

The Stonic is said to be a vehicle with a “style that’s iconic” as it sports a striking exterior look accentuated by its "tiger nose" grille, fin-type antenna, roof rail, LED daytime running lamps, rear combination lamps, rear spoiler garnish, and projector headlamps. It is also gets a wide selection of fun, two-tone body colors.

The Stonic is positioned to be an ideal ride in exploring the city as it features 185mm of ground clearance and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Space

Moving people and cargo is made convenient with the Stonic’s spacious cabin that offers ample room for everyone. The vehicle is structured with a 2,570mm wheelbase to provide generous headroom for every occupant. The Stonic’s rear seats are equipped with a folding function to allow accommodation of up to 325 liters of cargo.

Shift

Under the Stonic’s hood is a 1.4-liter dual CVVT petrol engine that delivers a maximum power output of 100ps and maximum torque of 132Nm. The crossover gets a six-speed automatic transmission which makes it convenient to drive along the busy streets in the metro, but if you’ll need more control on the road, you can easily shift to manual mode through the tiptronic shifter.

To cut the hassle in parking, the Kia Stonic is equipped with a rearview camera. Its top trim also gets additional driver assistance features such as smart entry and push start system.

Sounds

Good music will accompany even when jammed in traffic. The Stonic features an eight-inch touchscreen audio display that can be linked to your smartphone through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin is equipped with six speakers to guarantee enhanced streaming of your favorite songs straight from your personalized playlist.
