KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the price range of the updated MG ZS in the Philippines?
In the Philippines, the updated MG ZS’ price ranges from P918,888-P1,088,888.How much horsepower and torque can the updated MG ZS produce?
The updated MG ZS can produce up to 112 horsepower and 150 Newton-meters of torque. For starters, the model comes with an attractive exterior appearance combined with a neat and contemporarily styled interior. It also has enough features to be considered as comfy.
The Morris Garages (MG) model, however, has two different trims available in the Philippine market: the Comfort (Com) and the Luxury (Lux). So, how do these two trims differ from each other? Let’s find out.
MG ZS Lux
The Lux stands as the top-spec model for the ZS. It is priced at P1,088,888, and it received the most in terms of comfort-oriented features and safety bits.
Exterior
On the outside, the Lux is equipped with a honeycomb grille, which is outlined by chrome fittings. The aforementioned piece is flanked by a pair of automatic LED headlamp clusters and is capped from the bottom by a matte silver faux skid plate.
From the sides, the vehicle received a smooth body line decorated by black plastic claddings. It also comes with a pair of power-folding side mirrors, a pair of roof rails, and a set of 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels.
The rear of the updated ZS, on the other hand, is made more appealing thanks to its chrome-trimmed lower corners and its pair of “Plough Signature” tailgates. Other notable exterior equipment of the ZS Lux includes a panoramic sunroof, front and rear fog lamps, LED daytime running lamps, and a roof-mounted shark’s fin antenna.
Interior
For its interior, the ZS Lux stands out from the lower-spec Com due to its abundance of red contrast-colored pieces. The red-hued parts can be found on the vehicle’s leather seats, its dashboard-mounted air-conditioning vents, door cards, and its center console.
Additionally, it also gets plenty of soft-touch materials besides its shiny black plastic decorative trimmings.
Notable creature comforts available to the ZS Lux include an electronic temperature control for its air-conditioning, numerous USB ports, a 60:40 split-folding rear seat, and a two-level cargo floor for the trunk.
For its driver specifically, the Lux provides a six-way power adjustable seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a push-to-start button, a padded front cabin armrest, and a seven-inch digital multi-color multi-information display.
The center of its dashboard, meanwhile, was kitted out with a 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the Lux, the said screen is linked to a six-piece speaker set.
Safety
Concerning safety, the Lux exclusively comes with side airbags and curtain airbags. As standard, however, it also gets anti-lock braking, dual-front airbags, stability control, cornering brake control, hill-hold control, traction control, vehicle dynamic control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a reverse camera, an engine immobilizer, a car alarm, and tire pressure monitoring.
Supporting the features mentioned above are advanced driver-assist systems such as blind-spot monitoring.
Powertrain
Propelling the ZS Lux is a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine. At maximum, the four-banger can output up to 112 horsepower and 150 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels via a continuously variable transmission.
Standard on the ZS is a front McPherson strut suspension, a torsion beam rear suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Only the Lux, however, comes with a 3-mode adjustable electronic power steering system.
MG ZS Com
The Com, is the entry-level variant of the ZS priced at P918,888. Think of it as a “lite” version of the Lux, as it pretty much has the same mechanical bits but with slightly fewer safety features and styling details.
Exterior
For starters, the exterior of the Com pretty much looks identical to the Lux. Its LED headlamps do lack automatic functionality, and it doesn’t have a sunroof, but it also gets LED daytime running lamps, power-folding side mirrors, and roof rails.
Additionally, it also rides on a 17-inch set of wheels, but the ones it uses get a simpler one-color silver finish.
Interior
As mentioned above, the Com variant lacks the bright and lively red contrast colors present inside the top-spec Lux. It also has a more plain-looking dash. However, it still has some red stitching on its leather steering wheel.
In terms of creature comforts, the entry-level trim gets much of what is available to the top-spec model, save for its manual adjustable seat. Unlike the Lux, all of the Com’s seats are wrapped in simple but sturdy fabric.
Also present for the more affordable trim is a 10-inch infotainment system, but it ditched a fully digital cluster in favor of using analog gauges. It does keep a digital TFT trip meter, though. Plus, it has fewer speakers, numbering only four.
Safety
The standard safety feature set on the Com is identical to the Lux. What’s missing on the lower model are the side and curtain airbags. Plus, the entry-level trim doesn’t get blindspot monitoring.
Powertrain
The Com uses the same engine with the same maximum output as the Lux. As established before, it also has the same suspension system and all-wheel disc brake setup.
What is missing from the more affordable ZS version is the adjustable electronic power steering system.
Final thoughts
Based on the listed features for the ZS Com and Lux, the differences between the two aren’t too drastic. The styling details on the top-spec model, however, are the most impactful factors in making it stand out.
Additionally, the Lux gets a side and curtain airbag. Those sound simple, and some would think that front airbags are enough, but having more airbags may mean the difference between mild injuries or something worse in the event of an accident.
