Here are the Hyundai Custin's 2 trims

The Hyundai Custin is a family-friendly multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) fit for buyers looking for a plush riding and driving experience.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much horsepower and torque can the Hyundai Custin produce?

The Hyundai Custin can produce up to 167 horsepower and 253 Newton-meters of torque.
  • What are the variants of the Philippine-spec Hyundai Custin?

The variants of the Philippine-spec Hyundai Custin are the top-spec Premium and the entry-level GLS.
  • When it entered the market in 2023, it was described by Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated as a vehicle that was able to meet the demands of car buyers who value “the luxuries of life.” As such, it is kitted out with plenty of features and an eye-catching exterior.

The Custin, however, has two different trims currently available in the local market. There’s the Premium top-spec variant and the entry-level GLS. So, how do these two differ from each other in terms of specifications? Let us find out.

    Hyundai Custin Premium

The Premium stands at the top-of-the-line trim of the Philippine-spec Custin. It is currently priced at P2.08 million.

    Exterior

Up front, the top-spec Premium trim wears the Korean car brand’s Parametric Diamond grille. It comes in a glossy black finish, and it is flanked by a pair of “multi-faceted” LED headlamp clusters.

The side section of the variant, meanwhile, gets power-folding side mirrors and a pair of power-sliding doors. Up top, it sports a power tilting and sliding sunroof, while its rear end gets a power tailgate and a pair of eye-catching LED taillights.

Other notable exterior features of the Custin Premium include:

    • Chrome beltline moldings
    • Body color and chrome garnished door handles
    • Rear spoiler
    • LED daytime running lamps
    • LED position lamp
    • 18-inch alloy wheels

Size-wise, the top-spec variant is 4,950-millimeters (mm) long, 1,850-mm wide, and 1,710-mm in height. It also has a wheelbase length of 3,055-mm, and a ground clearance of 174-mm.

    Interior

Step inside the Custin Premium and one will be greeted by a well-arranged cabin filled to the brim with creature comforts.

For starters, all of the model’s seats are clad in leather. Its front row seats, in particular, are power-adjustable, while its second row received “Premium Relaxation” seats with ventilation and heating. The third row, meanwhile, gets a bench-type seat.

Rear curtains provide extra privacy inside the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle’s rear-row occupants also get access to their own dedicated manual automatic climate control system and folding backseat-mounted tables.

The front cabin, on the other hand, gets a separate automotive climate control system, a push-to-start button, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an electronic parking brake, cruise control, and a digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch LCD - among others.

Providing entertainment aboard the Custin Premium is a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The aforementioned display is linked to a six-piece speaker system, and it can handle voice recognition as well.

    Safety

The standard safety kit of the top-spec Custin variant consists of dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking, hill-start assist, tire pressure monitoring, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

The aforementioned are supported by an array of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) listed here:

    • Manual speed limit assist
    • Forward collision-avoidance assist
    • Lane keep assist
    • Blind-spot collision avoidance assist
    • Safe exit assist
    • Driver attention warning
    • High beam assist
    • Lane following assist
    • Rear cross collision-avoidance
    • Rear occupant warning

A parking distance warning system, a 360-degree monitor, and parking sensors also provide additional peace of mind.

    Powertrain

Propelling the Hyundai Custin Premium is a 1.5-liter T-GDI inline-4 gasoline engine. At maximum, it can produce up to 167 horsepower and 253 Newton-meters of torque.

Power is sent to the vehicle’s front wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The top-spec Hyundai model was also equipped with a drive mode selector with eco, smart, comfort, and sport modes.

    Hyundai Custin GLS

The Hyundai Custin GLS is the entry-level version of the MPV nameplate. In the Philippines, it retails at P1.77 million.

    Exterior

Where size and shape are concerned, the GLS trim is pretty much identical to the top-spec Premium. Additionally, it was kitted out with the same array of LED fixtures, but it has a smaller set of 17-inch wheels and black instead of chrome beltline moldings.

    Photo from HMPH

Moreover, only the right-hand side of the Custin GLS comes with a power sliding door. It also lacks a sunroof, and it doesn’t get a power tailgate.

    Interior

Like the top-spec trim, the GLS variant gets a three-row configuration, but its second-row seats do not come with ventilation and heating. Plus, its front-row seats do not have power adjustability.

Regardless, the lower-spec version still gets leather upholstery, but it doesn’t have rear curtains and foldable backseat tables.

Carried over from the Custin Premium are the same automatic front and manual rear air-conditioning systems. Both trims also feature the same touchscreen, though the one on the GLS gets fewer speakers, numbering only four.

    Safety

The Custin GLS gets the same standard safety kit as the Premium, but it has a more basic rear-view parking monitor. It also lacks the comprehensive ADAS kit provided for the top-of-the-line trim.

    Powertrain

Propelling the Hyundai Custin GLS is the same 1.5-liter T-GDI mill found on the Custin Premium.

    Photo from HMPH

It also utilizes an identical transmission system and a similar selection of drive modes.

    Final thoughts

For the utmost in luxury, it is clear that the Custin Premium is the one to get. On the flip side, buyers who can do without the versatility of dual power sliding doors and the added safety cushion of an ADAS suite can go for the Custin GLS.

The entry-level trim, after all, received the same crucial bits as the top-spec model. As mentioned above, it has the same engine, standard safety kit, infotainment system, and a nearly similar exterior appearance.

Folks who are serious about buying the Hyundai Custin, however, should give both variants a test drive. Doing so will make for a better car buying decision, and it is more immersive than merely reading vehicle specs off the internet.
