What's offered in the Toyota Fortuner's G and V variants?
Exactly 19,865 Fortuner units were sold last year, which is a slight 13% drop from its sales in 2018, but that doesn’t begin to tell the story of this model’s popularity since it was launched in the Philippines in 2005.
It has sold more than 5,000 units per year since 2006 and after hitting the five-digit mark it 2012, it has never looked back.
After the second-generation model was introduced in 2016, it became the best-selling vehicle in the country – beating even the low cost Vios – in 2017, with a whopping 39,680 units sold.
Toyota Motor Philippines has now sold over 220,000 units of the Fortuner and just last August, a survey showed that it was the top mid-sized SUV in the country with over 30% market share.
With the launch of the 2021 Toyota Fortuner and the addition of two new trims with so many new features and equipment, TMP aims to expand its dominance in the segment.
If you’re wondering how to pick and choose between the G, V, Q, and LTD trims of the Fortuner, we have your guide right here.
First off, you can no longer get the Fortuner with 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine. According to TMP executives, out of all the Fortuners sold since 2005, the gasoline-powered models had a very slim slice of the pie. Buyers preference for more low-end torque didn’t help its sales as well.
Exterior dimensions of all trims are the same – 4,795mm in length, 1,855mm in width, 1,835mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,745mm – and so are the suspension and brake system – double wishbone in front, multi-link in the rear, and ventilated front and rear brakes.
The entry-level is the G trim that’s offered with a six-speed manual transmission (MT) or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Both are powered by Toyota’s 2GD-FTV, which is a straight-four common rail diesel engine with a variable nozzle turbocharger (VNT) and intercooler. Power output of 148 HP and 400 Nm of torque are then sent to the front wheels of the 4x2 drive layout.
This trim uses 265/65 R17 tires with 17-inch alloy wheels.
Exterior equipment includes bi-beam LED (light emitting diode) headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, bulb front turn signal lamps, LED rear combination lamps with line guide, color-keyed outside rearview mirror that’s power-fold and power-adjustable, black front grille with silver paint, intermittent front wiper with time-adjust, silver painted backdoor garnish, color-keyed door outside handle, and black door belt molding.
Inside it has fabric seats (six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and four-way manually adjustable passenger’s seat), 60/40 split + slide + recline and one-touch tumble second-row seats with center armrest, 50:50 split + recline and Easy Space-Up third row seats, a 4.2-inch TFT (Thin Film Transistor) MID (multi-information display) in the instrument panel, an Eco lamp with color zone display, power steering with variable flow control that automatically adjusts steering wheel stiffness upon the speed of the vehicle, which helps reduce driver's stress, a tilt and telescopic steering column, urethane steering wheel (with MID + audio + phone + voice command controls), day & night rearview mirrors, glove box with damper + key and lock + lamp, four cupholders and two bottle holders in front, two cupholders and two bottle holders in the rear, room lamp, and reflector courtesy lamp.
It comes with a keyless entry system, rotary ignition, Eco and Power drive modes, power windows with automatic Up/Down with jam protect, speed sensing door locks, manual air-conditioning system, light control system with Follow-Me-Home feature, a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple Carplay + Android Auto + Smart Device Link + AM + FM + Bluetooth + USB + voice command, and three 12-volt outlets. Audio is sent to the cabin’s six speakers.
Safety features include driver + passenger + driver knee airbags, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control, Hill Start Assist Control, two three-point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelts with Pretensioners and adjustable seatbelt anchor in front, three three-point ELR seatbelts in the second row, two three-point ELR seatbelts in the third row, two ISOFIX and two tether anchors, a child protection lock system on the rear doors, an LED (light emitting diode) high mount stop lamp, Toyota Vehicle Security System with immobilizer and horn, reverse camera, and clearance and reverse sonar (two in front and four at the rear).
The G trim’s body comes in Attitude Black Mica, Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Super White II.

Up a notch is the V trim of the Fortuner and it only comes in one transmission option.
It is powered by the same 2GD-FTV engine in the G trim and delivers the same output to the front wheels of the 4x2 drive layout via six-speed AT.
Chassis features are the same including the tires and wheels size but the body comes with a few enhancements.
The V trim now has LED front turn signal lamps, LED front fog lamps, a welcome lamp, black painted grille with chrome accents, chrome backdoor garnish, chrome door outside handle, front and rear mud guards, and roof rails.
Cabin amenities are slightly similar. They only differ slightly with the V trim getting leather steering wheel with dark wood trim, paddle shifters, a cool box, an auto easy closer system on the back door, cruise control, a bigger infotainment screen at eight inches, wireless charging, two USB ports in the rear, on top of all the standard features of the G trim.
It also comes with Toyota’s Smart Entry system that allows you to lock and unlock the doors just by carrying the key somewhere on your body and not necessarily in your hand. A push-to-start system is also standard along with Eco and Power drive modes.
As for the V trim’s safety features, it has all that the G trim offers along with a panoramic view monitor instead of a basic reverse camera.
The V trim’s body comes in Sparkling Black Pearl Crystal Shine, Attitude Black Mica, Gray Metallic, Silver Metallic, Super White II, and White Pearl Crystal Shine.
