2019 Subaru Forester earns 5-star Euro NCAP ratings and other safety awards
MANILA: Have you spotted a Zebra-striped Subaru Forester driving around Metro Manila? If you have, you may be looking at one of the safest SUVs yet. After a series of grueling crash tests and safety checks, the vehicle received a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program, otherwise known as Euro NCAP.
For the test, a Subaru Forester 2.0i-L EyeSight was used. It’s one of the higher-end variants in the line-up, though it’s certainly no range-topper. As the name suggests, the tested model has EyeSight built into it. It’s an intelligent system designed to protect vulnerable road users.
The 2019 Forester specs sheet is equipped with the following safety features as a standard:
- Driver only: Knee airbag
- Front passenger only: Airbag cut-off switch
- Rear passengers only: Isofix
- Driver and passenger: Front airbag, side chest airbag, side pelvis airbag
- Driver, front and rear passengers: Belt pretensioner, belt loadlimiter, side head airbag, seat belt reminder
For additional safety, the SUV also has some driver assist features which provide speed assistance, lane assist system, and auto-emergency brakes which activate when it comes too close to pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists.
Thanks to its full range of safety specs, the 2019 Subaru Forester passed the series of tests from Euro NCAP with flying colours. Based on the Forester Euro NCAP rating results, it scored 97% in Adult Occupant Safety, 91% in Child Occupant Protection, 80% in Vulnerable Road Users Safety, and 78% in Safety Assist Features.
This isn’t a first time for the Subaru compact crossover. Subaru Forester was also recognized by other crash-test authorities. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named it their Top Safety Pick for 2019.
Subaru Forester also received a 5-star safety rating from the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) where it scored 94% in Adult Occupant Safety, 86% in Child Occupant Protection, 80% in Vulnerable Road Users Safety, and 78% in Safety Assist Features.
Subaru always placed great emphasis on the safety of their vehicles. The Japanese brand managed to get a 5-star Euro NCAP rating for Subaru Impreza and Subaru Levorg.
Recently, the tenth generation Honda Accord also earned a 5-star rating from ASEAN NCAP – the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian countries.
