2020 Hyundai Kona, Tucson, & Santa Fe grab a 5-Star rating by NHTSA
MANILA: The safety aspect of modern-day cars has come a long way in recent times. Speaking of Hyundai in particular, the South Korean automaker is known for producing some really strong and safe cars of late. We recently did a story on a Hyundai Tucson that was hit by a boulder. To no surprise, the couple inside of the SUV walked out safely and did not face any major injuries.
Keeping the safety quotient as high as it could, Hyundai recently unleashed the newest iterations of its SUVs/crossovers including the Kona, Santa Fe, and Tucson. After all the rigorous testing and various inspections, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the 2020 Hyundai Tucson, Kona, and Santa Fe with a 5-Star Overall Safety Work. The tests were a part of the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) by the NHTSA.
Starting with the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, the largest of the three South Korean SUVs scored four stars in front crash and rollover protection tests. On the other hand, the all-new Santa Fe grabbed a spotless five-star rating in the side crash tests. Moving on, both the Tucson and the Kona managed to score five stars in the frontal and side crash tests, while getting four stars rating in rollover protection test.
Not only the three SUVs were equipped with the Driver Attention Warning but also featured Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW), and Rear Cross-Traffic Warning (RCCW), which all are a part of the Hyundai’s SmartSense safety suite.
“Driver safety is our top priority. From Hyundai SmartSense to now Rear Occupant Alert, we are always looking to implement the latest in safety technologies, in order to provide enhanced safety for all of our customers,” said Mike O’Brien, who is the Vice President, Product, Corporate and Digital Planning, Hyundai Motor America. In case you're wondering, the Rear Occupant Alert system keeps a check of the open/closed status of the rear door and alerts the driver before he/she starts the car. Kudos to Hyundai for having driver and passenger safety as one of its top-most priorities.
