All-new Range Rover makes world debut in London
MANILA: Land Rover has officially launched the all-new Range Rover at the Royal Opera House in London. The next-generation model embodies modern luxury by design, offering greater refinement, customer choice, and personalization options than ever before.
In a statement, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer Thierry Bollore said, “The new Range Rover is a superb manifestation of our vision to create the world’s most desirable luxury vehicles, for the most discerning of customers. It writes the next chapter in the unique story of pioneering innovation that has been a Range Rover hallmark for more than 50 years.”
Range Rover is the original luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV), and it has set the standard in its segment for the past 50 years, blending serene comfort and composure with all-terrain capability. The new Range Rover is the most desirable iteration yet, seamlessly integrating breathtaking modernism and aesthetic grace with technological sophistication and seamless connectivity, and with seating for up to seven adults.
With a contemporary interpretation of Land Rover’s signature profile, the fifth-generation luxury SUV takes the brand’s modernist design philosophy to a higher level, creating an outstanding design statement.
“It is possible to respect your DNA and still project forwards — and that is what we have done,” Jaguar Land Rover Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern OBE stated. “The modernist nature of our design philosophy doesn’t follow fashion or trend. It’s free from superfluous detail, resulting in a form which speaks to modernity, yet is full of charm and delivers new levels of emotional engagement. The new Range Rover is quite simply the most desirable ever created.”
The lowering roofline, robust waistline, and lower rising sill of the new Range Rover can be traced back through generations.
The short front over hang, formal front end, upright windscreen, and unique boat tail rear, which tapers in plain sight, are all key factors in determining Range Rover’s proportions and expressing its unparalleled presence.
Flush elements and fine tolerance are hallmarks of the new Range Rover, and design-enabling technologies such as flush glazing, a hidden waist rail finisher, and seamless laser-welded roof joints add to its exquisite honed-from-solid appearance. The unique hidden-until-lit rear lights have also significantly contributed to the design’s success and will become a Range Rover trademark.
The new Ranger Rover is the first model to feature Land Rover’s new flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture. It combines advanced technology with modern luxury to provide unparalleled refinement for every occupant.
MLA-Flex can accommodate internal combustion, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric powertrains. It represents the next step in Land Rover’s simplified architecture strategy as part of the move to provide greater powertrain flexibility while also setting new quality standards.
It comes with a choice of efficient mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains and four, five, or seven-seat interiors across Standard and Long Wheelbase body configurations. A pure-electric Range Rover, the first all-electric Land Rover, is expected to join the lineup in 2024.
The pure-electric Range Rover will be the first in a series of all-electric Land Rovers. By the end of the decade, every Jaguar Land Rover model will be available with pure-electric power, allowing the company to achieve net-zero carbon across its products, operations, and supply chain by 2039.
The extended Range plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrains will only emit less than 30 g/km of CO2, with a WLTP-certified pure-electric driving range of up to 100 km They are projected to have a real-world driving range of up to 80 km — enough for typical Range Rover customers to complete up to 75% of their trips using solely electric power.
The new Range Rover also provides unrivaled comfort and elegance with the suite of cutting-edge technologies that come with it. The new third-generation Active Noise Cancellation 4 technology makes the Range Rover’s cabin one of the quietest on the road. It combines the microphones on the outside and the headrest speakers on the inside to create personal quiet zones for the passengers, similar to high-end active noise cancelling headphones.
The new Range Rover also comes with built-in Amazon Alexa for easy voice control. Customers can operate everything, from favorite infotainment features and music track selection to navigation or phone contacts, using natural voice commands while keeping their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road.
Cabin Air Purification Pro 6 ensures comfort and wellbeing by combining dual-nanoe X technology for allergen reaction and pathogen removal to help reduce odors and viruses. Advanced nanoe technology is scientifically proven to reduce viruses and bacteria, including SARS-CoV-2 virus. Meanwhile, CO2 management and PM2.5 Cabin Air Filtration improves air quality.
Innovative materials and techniques were also combined to minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing and driving the new Range Rover. A Kvadrat remix wool blend fabric, which will be available as a leather-free interior option, is one of them. Its wool blend is warm and cozy, making it the ideal complement to the technical Ultrafabrics material, which has all the tactile qualities of leather but is 30% lighter and emits only a quarter of the CO2.
Land Rover’s pioneering Integrated Chassis Control system, which manages the most comprehensive array of chassis technology every fitted to a vehicle of this kind, provides the standard Range Rover capability and composure Advanced Electronic Air Suspension preemptively adapts to the road ahead using eHorizon navigation data, while all-wheel steering gives greater high-speed stability and the tightest turning circle of any Land Rover. The new Dynamic Response Pro technology provides highly responsive electronic roll control for increased composure and agility in all circumstances.
The all-new Range Rover was designed and engineered in the United Kingdom, and will be manufactured exclusively in a new state-of-the-art production line at Land Rover’s Solihull Manufacturing Facility, the historic home of Range Rover. With the assembly of efficient mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure-electric versions of the new Range Rover on the same line, the investment on the plant will ensure improved quality.
“The new Range Rover is the most desirable Range Rover ever made and will continue to be the must-have luxury SUV globally,” Coventry Motors Corporation (which distributes the Land Rover brand here) President Chris Ward said. “We are thrilled to bring in the new Range Rover into the Philippine market to serve our clients with the most sophisticated of taste. Another exciting development for Range Rover, a vehicle that represents ultimate luxury and class, as it advances into the future as a luxury EV by 2024. We will be able to share more information about this astonishing vehicle in the next coming days.”
During the launch event, Land Rover also unveiled the new Ranger Rover SV, which will provide customers even more option for creating a genuinely unique vehicle when it goes on sale in 2022.
The SV variant exemplifies Range Rover luxury and personalization while also demonstrating superb craftsmanship. Among the materials used for exclusive Ranger Rover SV design elements are dazzling plated metals, smooth ceramics, exquisite mosaic marquety, and a choice of high-grade leathers or sustainable non-leather Ultrafabrics. Additional design themes, including SV Serenity and SV Intrepid, have two-tone front-to-back contrasting interior colorways, while the opulent four-seat SV Signature Suite has an electrically deployed Club Table and refrigerator.
This model is the first to carry the new ceramic SV roundel and branding scheme, and will be known simply as Range Rover SV. The SV roundel signifies Special Vehicle Operations’ design and engineering passion for contemporary luxury, performance, and capability. All new Land Rover vehicles launched by Special Vehicle Operations in the future will be identified by the SV roundel.
