KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What made the Hyundai Ioniq 5 stand out among all electric SUVs?

According to Edmunds, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a good value in comparison to other vehicles in its market segment as it exhibits the best features of an electric SUV: comfort, convenience, battery range, and efficiency.
  • Aside from the recent Edmunds accolade, what other prestigious awards has the Hyundai Ioniq 5 received?

Some of the awards it received are World Car of the Year 2022, World Electric Vehicle of the Year 2022, World Car Design of the Year 2022, UK Car of the Year, German Car of the Year, and Auto Express Car of the Year.
  • The Hyundai Ioniq 5 bested all the mainstream, luxury, ultra luxury, and performance electric SUVs included in the Edmunds Top Rated Electric SUV category. According to Edmunds, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a good value in comparison to other vehicles in its market segment as it exhibits the best features of an electric SUV: comfort, convenience, battery range, and efficiency.

“It’s hard to think of another vehicle of any description that blends step-ahead design and real-world versatility to such brilliant effect. Spacious, comfortable, fun to drive and dripping with desirable tech, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the epitome of what an electric SUV should be,” Edmunds Editor-in-Chief Alistair Weaver stated.

Since its debut in February 2021, the Ioniq 5 has received a lot of praise for its innovative design and remarkable all-around performance, as evidenced by a number of prestigious accolades.

Some of the awards it received are World Car of the Year 2022, World Electric Vehicle of the Year 2022, World Car Design of the Year 2022, UK Car of the Year, German Car of the Year, and Auto Express Car of the Year.

“Ioniq 5 continues to win awards from the most credible media outlets, and we couldn’t be more proud to receive this award from Edmunds,” Hyundai Motor North America Product Planning Director Ricky Lao said. “When shoppers visit Edmunds, they are going to discover the Ioniq 5’s outstanding range, retro design, and ultra-fast charging speed.”

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the first model in Hyundai’s Ioniq brand. The Ioniq 5 is engineered with the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which is Hyundai Motor Group’s specialized architecture for BEVs. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 features a long wheelbase, eco-friendly interior features, modern driver assistance and safety features, and a powerful performance with ultra-fast charging and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

The Ioniq 5 exhibits a unique midsize crossover utility vehicle exterior look, chiseled with clean and edgy linear accents.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5’s front features Hyundai’s first clamshell hood that is developed with less panel gaps for better aerodynamics. It also gets the largest rims among all Hyundai electric vehicles. Each of its aero-optimized wheels has a diameter of 20 inches.

The Ioniq 5 features an eco-friendly solar roof that can collect and transmit energy to the vehicle’s battery to avoid battery discharge when traveling over longer distances.

On the inside, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 features the “Living Space” design, which is highlighted by the adjustable center console called the Universal Island. Its longer-than-usual wheelbase provides extra legroom for a more comfortable ride. The vehicle is also upholstered with electronically adjustable front seats, whose thickness were decreased by 30% to offer more room for the second-row passengers. To demonstrate its commitment in promoting sustainable development, the car seats, headliner, door trim, floor, and armrest were all made from eco-friendly materials such as recycled PET bottles, bio PET yarns and wool yarns, eco-processed leather, and bio paint with plant extracts.

The cabin also features a unique ceiling which is made of one large glass panel without any support materials.

The second-row seats get slide forward and folding functions to provide more trunk space if needed. If the seats are fully folded, the Ioniq 5’s standard 531-liter luggage space can be expanded to almost 1,600 liters. The vehicle also provides a front trunk space that can accommodate a maximum cargo of 57 liters.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available with different power electric (PE) systems to meet the needs of every customer. The Ioniq 5  has two battery pack variants: 58kWh or 72.6kWh. Two electric motor configurations are available: one with a rear motor only and one with both front and rear motors. All PE configurations can produce an optimal speed of 185kph.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 can be charged from 10% to 80% within 18 minutes when using a 350kW charger. According to WLTP, the vehicle can be charged for only five minutes to reach 100km.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 made its Philippine debut in September 2022 at the Philippine International Motor Show 2022. According to Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc., it will hit the local market this year. Pricing will range from P3.068 million to P3.698 million. It will be available in four colors: Phantom Black Pearl, Cyber Gray Metallic, Atlas White, and Gravity Gold Matte.

Every purchase of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will come with a five year or 200,000km warranty, an eight-year or 160,000km high voltage battery warranty, and a five-year or 75,000km free maintenance.
