Hyundai teases Exter sub-compact SUV. Will we see it in the PH?

MANILA: With the popularity of crossovers and SUVs and the market demand for cars with higher ground clearance even in the budget segment, car companies are coming up with small crossovers left and right. In the Philippines, the smallest crossover they have available is the Hyundai Creta, but can they go even more compact? We might have the answer to that soon. 

Hyundai has now revealed a teaser picture of the Exter, its upcoming micro-SUV for India. The design render also gives us a preview of a few design hints at what the future of Hyundai crossovers and SUVs will look like globally. 

The Exter has a very distinct front-end design that has never before been seen in current Hyundai models. The Exter might also be getting a split headlamp setup with new H-shaped LED DRLs based on the brand's 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language. This design motif is expected to appear on more Hyundai SUVs, including the next-generation Santa Fe. The front chin and lower grill feature a boxy aesthetic that spans throughout the entirety of the lower half of the grill. 

It is slated to be marketed just under the Hyundai Creta making it a compelling option for those looking for a compact yet rugged runabout. Possible engine options include a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine or a turbocharged 1.0-liter variant both found in other Hyundai models. There are no pricing details or rumors of whether it would be coming to the Philippines or not but it is expected to launch in India by August 2023.
