It is Special, It is the 2,000,000th Defender of Land Rover
MANILA: Indeed it is special because it is the 2,000,000th Defender, but, what is more special about it is its purpose. “Charity is the opium of privileged”, maybe, therefore, the British brand, Land Rover came up with this noble idea wherein this Defender will be auctioned on December 16, 2015, during a special charity event at the Bonhams auction house. The proceeds of which will be donated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and to the Born Free Foundation, an international wildlife charity organization. This news must have taken you back to earlier May when a team of ardent Defender fans along with Bear Grylls were invited to join the Solihull production team to build this one of a kind vehicle.
“Over 67 years, the Series Land Rover and in turn Defender has been the transport of choice for explorers, charity organizations, farmers and even royalty. Throughout history, it has helped pioneers to reach the unreachable. What started life as an agricultural workhorse has transcended the automotive world to become a worldwide design icon. I was honored to join the production line team in Solihull to help build this unique vehicle. It was a special experience which will no doubt become a fond memory,” said Dr. Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.
The array of distinct features that can be seen that this Defender carries Indus Silver shiny body which is contrasted by a map of Red Wharf Bay engraved on the aluminum fender. The Red Wharf Bay is the place where the sketch of the Defender was first drawn in the sand. The aristocratic and unique '2,000,000' badge is glued on the rear section of the SUV while the roof, door hinges, mirror caps, wheels and wheel arches are all covered in Santorini Black. It further has the privilege of bearing the S90 HUE registration plates which honor the first ever pre-production Land Rover, HUE 166.
The imperial feeling will prolong even inside too with the leather seats that feature the same map of Bay along with '2,000,000' logo stitched on the headrest. An aluminum plaque is placed on the base of the driver's seat and is signed by all those lucky individuals who contributed building this SUV.
“The auction of this milestone vehicle is an opportunity to own a piece of Land Rover’s history, as Defender enters its final phase of manufacturing in Solihull. Giving people the chance to buy this truly distinctive Defender to raise funds for the IFRC and Born Free Foundation is a suitable way to celebrate the role that Defender has played in supporting our humanitarian aid and conservation partners over the decades,” added Speth.
With this unit, the brand not only achieves the production milestone but surely reflects an established name in the automobile industry. 'How thoughtful!' is our response here. For expressing your responses, you can catch the glimpse of this SUV in the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
