Jeep confirms a 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor for the fourth-gen Wrangler
MANILA: The arrival of the third-gen Jeep Wrangler was one of the most anticipated events in the automobile space, and the American manufacturer did not disappoint at all. Along with the brute off-road capabilities and several creature comforts, the third-generation Jeep Wrangler came with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 gas-fed motor and a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel. It is a fact known around the world that most of the automaker was now doing away with diesel engines, and the higher sales of the Wrangler equipped with the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 also depict the customer interest towards gasoline mills.
But it seems if Jeep hasn't done with diesel motors just yet. With that said, the fourth-generation Jeep Wrangler is going to sport a new powertrain lineup. Instead of the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, the highly capable 4x4 will now feature a smaller 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Moreover, there will also be a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel mill for the European masses.
The latter won't make it to the Philippine shores, though. Moving on, the most interesting addition to the engine options is going to be the Ram 1500's 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 motor. An eight-speed automatic transmission that we find on the currently offered 3.6-litre V6 and 2.0-litre turbocharged powertrains will also come coupled with the new engine.
Speaking of power, the Ram 1500's 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 mill is capable of producing 243 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 569 Nm. The power figures surpass the European 2.2-litre turbo-diesel figures of 43 PS and 119 Nm, respectively. Similar to the other Jeep Wrangler models, the new 4x4 with the V6 will also get the centre and rear locking differentials, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, Uconnect touchscreen infotainment with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a special "3.0D" badge.
The current-gen Jeep Wrangler in the Philippines gets either a turbocharged four-pot or a naturally-aspirated V6 mill. It will be interesting to see whether or not the American automaker offers the new 4x4 will the Ram 1500's 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 in the country. Considering the fact that Jeep has already made it clear that it won't be offering any turbocharged diesel mills here in the Philippines, the Ecodiesel V6 might just make its entry to the Philippine market.
