Next-Generation XC60 Spied in Amsterdam
MANILA: Oh yes, you read it right. There is a 2017 Volvo XC60 under making and as per its recently clicked spied images the car looks just one or two steps behind production phase. The heavily camouflaged XC60 with big and bold sectioned plastic cladding was seen standing outside a cafe in Amsterdam, seems like the makers are enjoying city's famous coffee after months of hard work they have poured in its making. Another reason which we feel for Amsterdam selection is its rush traffic lanes, where the makers can easily test all-new XC60 world renowned safety system.
It seems like Volvo is on a spree of refinement and refreshment, from the last quarter of 2015 to till date, as the brand has done a lot and offered engineering marvels in each class. Like in October last year, Volvo Philippines launched the second generation XC90, a stylish replacement for the 2002 launch model and we can't go without mentioning its 100 percent score in Euro NCAP safety test. This was closely followed by Volvo PH giving R-Design Touch to V40, S60 and XC60.
All the above-mentioned cars though are different is segment but they all hold one thing in common and that's Volvo undisputed safety. Further, giving support to the above statement are Volvo's new CMA Platform and recently introduced side exterior airbags. Volvo's same best-in-class safety legacy is seen carried forward by 2017 Volvo XC60 as well. The car is equipped with the IntelliSafe safety system, whose part gear is City Safety System that enables the car with real co-pilot attributes allowing it to drive the car by itself in heavy traffic at a set speed.
Now, it's time to know the second generation XC60 deeper and better , the following pointers will help you to understand the car in detail -
1. Platform - New Volvo XC60 underpins the Scalable Product Architecture platform, same as the one seen supporting the all-new XC90, S90 & V90.
2. Powermill - Though information about the powertrain is still under cover, the new XC60 is expected to carry a 3 and 4-CYL turbocharged mill. Also, it is expected that one of two will feature plug-in hybrid configuration as well. As for the prototype, it was seen churning 254 hp with a 2.0-litre 4-CYL, the same T5 gasoline mill featuring in most Volvo cars.
3. Exterior - Though, the car was heavily camouflaged but it seemed to follow very closely Volvo's current design philosophy, the one seen on XC90. On the front profile is present a large grill followed by LED headlights paired smartly with 'Thor's Hammer' daytime running lights that are supported by the low bumper. On the rear, one can see the same vertical taillight, kinked third-row window and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.
4. Launch - We are not expecting Volvo XC60 debut any time before last quarter of 2016. To the latest we can think of new XC60 launch at the 2017 Paris Motor Show.
