TAWA names Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid as Mid-Size Luxury SUV
MANILA: The Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) has named the Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid car as the mid-size luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) for the fifth year in a row. Refreshed and recharged, the 2020 Volvo XC90 is the Gothenburg-headquartered company’s flagship car. It’s equipped with a number of design, technology, utility and safety features expected from a luxury SUV.
TAWA vice-president Kristin Shaw said that the organization’s members were impressed with the XC90 T8 Inscription at the state’s Truck Rodeo event. Volvo has constantly paid attention to safety and luxury which is evident from the use of upscale materials and features like the crystal gearshift. The 2020 Volvo XC90 is beautiful both outside and inside, Shaw said, adding that the SUV is strong enough to tackle tough terrains.
The XC90, according to Volvo, is a luxurious and confident take on traditional Scandinavian design aesthetics. The car’s exterior is strong, and at the same time, sports balanced proportions. The interior is a great combination of beautiful materials, relaxed design, and the latest technology.
Volvo Cars USA senior vice-president Anders Gustafsson said that TAWA’s recognition is always very special. It makes the company proud. He hoped that the XC90 will give Texas buyers the confidence to buy a vehicle that is environment-friendly.
The 2020 Volvo XC90 has a new six-seat configuration which provides easier access to the third-row. Other highlights include updated colors and styling,
and a new Tailored Wool Blend cabin option which enhances the car’s luxury value. The SUV comes in three powertrain options that include a 400 bhp plug-in hybrid, and 316 bhp and 250 bhp gas engines. The plug-in hybrid version returns a mileage of around 400 miles.
The car is equipped with the Volvo Intellisafe which is a suite of driver assistance features. It includes Pilot Assist with Distance Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Cross-Traffic Alert with automatic braking, Collision Avoidance by City Safety, Steering Assist, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Steering Assist.
The entry-level T5 Momentum version of the 2020 Volvo XC90 commands a price of $48,350. The plug-in T8 hybrid version has a price of $67,500, excluding local, state, and federal incentives.
