Hyundai Kona Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
Hyundai Kona is hailed as one of the best products to have come from the house of South Korean automaker, in the crossover segment. Recent times have witnessed a sudden rise in the SUV’s and crossovers section and Hyundai Kona is here to dominate this segment. There are a lot of interesting things about Kona that make it distinctive, one amongst which is refreshed design language which is futuristic and practical at the same time. The crossover features a minimalistic design with uniquely designed front fascia and functional elements.
Kona is being made available in the GLS variant for the Philippines market with a single engine and transmission option. Under the hood is a 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The engine is extremely powerful to churn out 147hp of power and up to 179Nm of torque. Kona comes with a price tag of Php 1.19 Million and locks horns with its strongest competitors like Mazda.
Hyundai Kona Interior & Features
While talking about the interior aesthetics of Hyundai Kona, what we see is a futuristic design that is far beyond what we have seen in the Hyundai models to date. The conventional cascading theme has been ditched this time and the overall interior layout has been given a distinctive look.
On the inside, we see s three-spoke steering wheel with large buttons mounted for audio, Bluetooth, and cruise controls. Coming to the center-instrument console, we see a vertical layout with a music system placed at the top. As opposed to expected, the instrument cluster does not have a touchscreen infotainment system which most cars of this class and segment does have. The colour co-ordination around the AC vents and gear lever add to the appeal of the centre-cluster. With Kona, you don’t have to worry about long journeys as the cabin space offers ample legroom and headroom space.
Kona Exterior
From the exterior aesthetics, the Hyundai looks at how future Hyundai creations will look. The overall design of the Kona looks very aggressive and masculine and totally goes with Hyundai’s “fluidic” philosophy.
The front fascia of the crossover dons a new generation cascading grille with a thin strip placed above the grille for ventilation. What adds to the style quotient is the partitioned theme for the front headlamp setup. Adding to the appeal are the long strips of Daytime Running Lights beside the grille which looks like sharp eyebrows at the front face. The headlamps with LED projector units have been placed a bit lower separately, with a black cladding around it. The fog lamps are also placed at a unique position which is the end of the scuff plate below the grille.
Coming to the side profile of the crossover, we see nicely contoured curves and lines running all over the body of the car, which position a strong characteristic appeal. Adding to the sportiness and rugged look of the crossover is the side cladding and lifted clearance. The most significant design element on the side profile is the ‘7-shaped’ black garnishing on the C-pillar.
Coming to the rear profile of the crossover, we see an aggressive appeal as observed on the front. Prominently highlighted at the rear fascia are the turn indicators and reverse lamps with colour cladding around it. The thick silver skid plate, roof-mounted spoiler, and roof rails make it looks sporty.
Hyundai Kona Ride & Handling
The Hyundai Kona is equipped with the suspension setup of MacPherson struts at the front and a coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. The overall suspension is on a stiffer side to give a smooth and flowy ride and blend with the sporty appeal of the car. The steering too is slightly harder than other Hyundai cars from the past, making it easy to control. The disc brake setup at both ends also has a comfortable feel.
Kona Engine & Fuel Consumption
Under the bonnet of Kona, Hyundai has fitted the Kona with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. This Atkinson engine is extremely powerful to churn out a maximum power output of 149 PS and a peak torque output of 185 Nm, making it one of the most powerful crossovers of the segment.
Hyundai Kona Braking & Safety
Hyundai Kona is fitted with all the basic and standard safety features like front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, all disc brake setup, reverse parking sensors, engine immobilizer, and tyre pressure monitoring system is a good add-on.
Kona Verdict
One who is looking for a decent SUV that will perform well and last for years should check out this ever-fashionable Hyundai Kona car once. The car looks and feels way luxurious within despite being an affordable subcompact SUV car. The car is loaded with exquisite features. In fact, the exterior of the car is equally mesmerizing. This car will provide ultimate comfort with ample space on the rear seat. Though the price tag is whooping you get a wonderful car with a futuristic design that is youthful and aggressive in appeal. The charm it shall bring on roads makes it one of the best models from Hyundai lineage.
