GWM officially launches PH-market Tank 300

GWM Philippines has officially unveiled the Tank 300 for the local market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much is the GWM Tank 300?

The GWM Tank 300 is retailed for P2.678 million.
  • What engine is fitted in the GWM Tank 300?

The GWM Tank 300 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline- four gasoline engine.
  • The reveal was made following the five-door sport utility vehicle’s local preview in October 2023.

    Exterior

Sporting a boxy silhouette, the GWM Tank 300 has a strong design language that can be likened to European off-road vehicles in the market.

Up front, the vehicle dons a rectangular, three-slatted grille, horizontal LED daytime running lights that run along the center of the round headlamps, and LED foglamps that follow the angle of the steering wheel.

To its sides are raised roof rails, huge fenders that house 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/65 series all-terrain tires, and black plastic claddings that offer additional bodywork protection.

A full size-spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate, flanked by the large LED taillights.

GWM Philippines boasts that the Tank 300 uses a ladder-frame chassis with a 160mm by 130mm cross section. The said frame, the company claimed, has a torsional rigidity of 282.8 kNm/rad to provide a stable foundation for torsional resistance and driving stability on challenging terrain.

Further, the vehicle comes with short overhangs and has a 33-degree approach angle and a 34-degree departure angle.

Additionally, the GWM Tank has 224-millimeter (mm) ground clearance, a 700 mm wading depth towing capacity of up to 2,500 kilograms.

    Interior

The GWM Tank 300 features a comfortable premium cabin design.

Seats are in Nappa leather with diamond pattern stitching, and the dashboard is outfitted with a pair of 12.3-inch digital displays —one as instrument cluster and the other, touchscreen infotainment system that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-compatible. Crisps sounds will come from the nine-speaker Infinity sound system.

The steering wheel (which also has paddle shifters) is covered in microfiber material. At the cargo are the standard cooling box and 220-volt power outlet.

Other elements include the retro-style, cylindrical air-conditioning vents, analog clock and gear selector that is akin to the thrust levers of a jet aircraft.

    Powertrain

The GWM Tank 300 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline- four gasoline engine that is capable of giving as much as 217 horsepower and 380 Newton-meters of torque. The mill is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Helping it reduce fuel consumption is the standard stop-start system.

    Safety, convenience

Absorbing bumps are the double-wishbone front suspension and multilink rear suspension while the vehicle’s stopping power comes from the front and rear ventilated disc brakes.

The GWM Tank 300 also gets differential locks for the front and rear, all-terrain control system with eight driving modes and an expert mode that acts like a conductor for the engine, transmission and differentials to ensure that the perfect amount of torque goes to each wheel on any terrain.

Moreover, the vehicle also has a Crawl Control, which automatically drives the SUV from 5-12 kilometers per hour as well as the Tank Turn technology that adds braking pressure to the inner rear wheel through the electronic parking brake, reducing the SUV’s turning radius by 1.2 meters.

Similar to the Haval Jolion HEV and Haval H6 HEV, the GWM Tank 300 is offered with a comprehensive active-safety suite that includes adaptive cruise control, hill-start assist, and hill descent control, secondary collision mitigation and roll movement intervention, as well as automatic emergency brake system.

The myriad of technologies that can be found on the GWM Tank 300 helped the model received a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program.

“The Tank 300 isn’t just a vehicle,” Luxuriant Automotive Group Incorporated Marketing and Sales Director Tonette Lee said.

“It’s a statement of unyielding capability, boundless adventure, and unwavering luxury,” she added. “It’s tough outside and tender inside. It’s the vehicle that breaks free from limitations and redefines what it means to conquer the road or create one where there is none.”

Packaged with a five-year/160,000-kilometer warranty, the GWM Tank 300 is retailed for P2.678 million.
